Mr. Frank Hariton, who has been
home on a visit for the past three

-Mr. John Coursey bas sold his thor-
oughbred Clydesdale mare "Nellie
Wade," to Mr. Chas. Eaid, V. S., of
Simcoe, Norfolk Co, The above mare
took first prize at the Western Fair,
London, last fall.- We understand
the price paid was $300, the purchaser
to pay for the delivery of her. -At an
enthusiastic meeting held last: week
for the purpose of re -organizing the
hockey club for the season . the fol-
lowing were elected: president, John

sad and desolate by the death of their
clear little babe which sad event moor-
ed last week. The funeral which was
private took place on Saturday.. The
sympathy of the community goes out
to the bereaved parents.

terian' chairch was held on Wednesday
in the church, when all the reports
were brought forward. The emigre

spiritually and financially, there being

ter's salary for this year was increased

stock of drygoods and groceries to Mr.

Winnipeg for a special use in the city.

was not one pound difference in their
weight. It is needless to say the price.

Mr. T. B. Dennis who has agood posi-
tion in Galt, intends moving their in a
short time. --Mrs. Zinn and her two
daughters, of Cavalier. N.D., are on a
few weeks' visitwith friends here, the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kaer-
cher.-Dr. Hamilton, V.S., had in his
possession last week quite a curiosity
in the shapeof a three-legged calf.
The entire inside was attached to the
outside, and which internal organs out-
wardly exposed
ut-wardlyexposed was without a particle
of hair covering. The calf was dead,
and thelimbs had to be broken before
taken from the animal. The freak,
aside from the defects noted, was oth-
erwise well formed, and nearly if not
quite full grown. -An assault of a rath-
er serious nature took place near the
village of Blake a few days ago. Mr.
Thos, Sherritt, it is said, used the lash
as well as the handle of a whip on his
wife, who is now under the doctor's
rare. He is said to have beenin a state
of intoxication when he committed the
deed. Those who know him state that
this is but the climax of a series of
beatings which he has given ber. The
Crown is said to have taken up the
case, and Constable Gundry, of Gode-
rich,.isnow looking for the offender
who has disappeared and -cannot be
found.
MEETING. -The annual meeting of
the Hay Branch Agricultural Society
was held in the Town Hall on Wednes-
day, Jan. 13, with President Caldwell
in the chair. The Sec'y-Treasurer's
and auditor's reports were adopted by
the meeting. The cash balance on
hand at the beginning of the year was
$48.50; members paid up for 1904, $76,
making a net balance of $12.1.50 to the
credit of the society. The following

that T. O'Brien, who has been ill for

Doyle, who recently moved here from
Mount .Carmel, has sold his property
on Queen street to Wm. Young, of
McGillivary, who will move in early
in the spring. -Harry Zaphe bus sever-
ed his connection with the establish-
ment of A. W. Humphries & Son and
left on Tuesday for Strathroy, where
he has secured a good position in
Wright's hardware store. Harry will
be greatly missed in booth business and

the Epworth League, she being a mem-
ber of both. -Mr. Wm. Brinker, who
has 1aeen on a visit to his mother, who
is ill, bas returned to his home in Elli-
son, Mich. -Our brave stage driver has
not missed one trip this winter, al-
though the snow is deeper than it has
been for a number of years. -Mr. H.
Eggert, who has been in the lumber
woods since last fall, was obliged to
return home on account of so much
snow in the woods,

Daum -Mrs. Baker, relict of the
late John, Baker, passed. away Wed-
nesday afternoon, Jan. 6, 1904, after a
lengthy illness, in her 09th year. The
deceased lady was widely known and
highly respected, She leaves a large
family, Mrs. Judson Corbett, Mrs. A.
E. Oorbett, of Huntsville, Wash.; Mrs.
Chas. Hayter, of Centralia; W. J. Ba-
ker,
a
ker, of Barpley, and Miss Emma at
home. She was always . known as Ia
kind and obliging neighbor and her
death is regretted by ft large cir cin or
friends. The funeral on Friday was
largely attended, the remains being in-
terred in the Parkhill cemetery.

Mr. Jack Nichols, of London, spent
Sunday in the village the guest of Mr.
Ira Brown. -Mr. Herman Tyler, who
h'as been hostler for Mr. A. Hill the
past summer, has decided to move
with bis family to Dashwood.. Mr.
Hill has engaged Mr. Jacob Finkbeiner
in his stead. -Henry Either, M. P. P.,
who is attending the Legislature in
Toronto, spent last Sunday at home
with his family. -Several of our citi-
zens have been obliged to go on the
roofs of their houses and remove the
snow. - Mr. O. Beaver's lumber shed
hascollapsed from the heavy weight
of snow. -Mr. Charles Wolf has been
confined to his bed the past week from
a severe attack of la grippe, -Mr.
Lloyd Jones of Exeter, was in the vil-
lage Monday and Tuesday teaching
music. Mr. Jones has established a
large class and is giving. good satisfac-
tion as a teacher of music. -The Trus-
tees of the Evangelical church have

services of the Methodist church were

mons. The service in the evening was
for young men. The church was
crowded to the doers. The choir was
composed of young men. - -There were also young men ushers and collectors.
On IMonday evening ai concert was
given by the members of the choir and
the league. The programme consisted
of choruses, solos, recitations, duetts.
etc., and an address by Rev. Mr. Col-
ter. The audience was very large and
all were very much pleased with the
evening's programme.
