The case against the prisoner was a clear ono, and a conviction was easily Secured. Chief of Police Newton and Hayes at once want to Parson's house, and in the cellar found a large quantity of goods stolen from Paterson and Sons, elothing and other articles, which have since been identified by local dealers as their property. The prisoner, who had previously been convicted for theft, was brought up in the Police Court, and remanded till Wednesday. Ii ngston. Kingston, .April 12. -James Dupont, of this city, aged nineteen, stole a ride on a G.T.R. freight train from Gan- anoque last evening. Richard Do - .bell, the Canadian Cabinet Minister without portfolio, who sailed for New York on the Cunard steamer Campania yesterday, in an interview previous to his departure, said that a contract to build four fast ocean liners had boon signed on condition that the Imperial Government would share in the cost of the proposed fast service between Canada and Great Britain.
