HOW MR. RANKIN DIED.
The Mystery at Pitzwilliam Island --lir.
Bankin's Companions Picked Up by the
Tug Seaman.
Tobermoray, Nov. S0.—Thomas . 1.
Austin, of Detroit, and George I'. Belrose,
of this place, have been pioked up by the
searching tug Seaman. liar. Belrose told
the following story of the death of Tohn
S. Rankin, of Detroit, on Fitzwilliam
Island: "On November 20 Mr. Rankin
and I started for camp along the shore,
Belrose leading. We had nearly reached
the camp when I heard Mr. Rankin
fall. I hurried up, and found him lying
on his face with his hands in a position
showing that he had made no effort to
break his fall. His right side seemed
paralyzed, his leg and arm being per-
fectly stiff. Mr. Austin and I started in
a small yawl for Tobermoray to tele-
graph for assistance, but could only get
to Black Bill Isle. On Friday the tug
Seaman picked us up."

IF YOU SUFFER
The Fault Is
Your Own.
Paine's Celery Compound Earth's
Only Cure For AU Forms of
Rheumatism.
Hundreds of twines of pain. and
hours of agony every day; weeks and
months of helpless suffering, and still
you go on from bad to worse, until' you
become crippled and deformed.
If you are a , constant martyr to
rheumatism and its tortures, the 'fault
is your own. You might easily have
avoided all the agonies of past clays
and nights, had you used Paine's Cel-
ery Compound,
You cannot plead the excuse that
you did not know of such a disease -
conquering medicine. You surely
have heard your friends speak of it.
The newspapers have heralded thous
ands of victories won by Paine's Celery
Compound over rheumatism; and if
your physician has failed to tell about
the great modern rheumatic cure, he
has kept the truth from you for his own
benefit.
You are not by any means in a hope-
less state, Be assured, Paine's Celery
Compound will deliver you from your
present bondage of agony.' Notwith-
standing your past failures with nen
vines, sarsaparillas, bitters and pills,
Paine's Celery Compound will give you
the new life you are so eagerly looking.
for. Try it; there can be no failure..
Mr. W. McWilliams,4of Bradford, Ont,,
an old sufferer from rheumatism, says:
"Unsolicited, I forward this testi-
monial as to the value of Paine's Celery
Compound. I am pretty well up in
years and was sorely afflicted with
rheumatism. I purchased and used
six bottles of your medicine, and alp
now perfectly well; I have no rheuma•
tism left."
Attacking Puslinch Horses.
Guelph, Nov. 29,—Mr. John Hanlon,
Puslinch, has lost four horses from
cerebro -spinal meningitis, a rare disease
in this country, and lies four more horses
suffering from it. It principally shows
itself by paralysis of the throat, thus
rendering the administration of medi-
cine impossible. There Is a dulness in
the first stago, and the animal will drink
very slowly. Then ho has intense thirst
but cannot drink. When he gets down he
is not able to rise. Whether the disease
is infectious or not veterinary science
has not yet discovered. Veterinary Sur-
geons Ireland and Reid made a thorough
examination of the premises and the
farm, and could find nothing that was
likely to give rise to the disease except
from the water. The buildings wererdis-
infected, the well cleaned out, the surviv-
ing four horses removed to another
building and everything possible done to
keep the disease from spreading if it
should be infectious. Dr. Smith, Princi-
pal of the Ontario Veterinary College,
was telephoned to in connection with
the case. Ho replied that, as a rule,
those affected would die, as he never
knew of one recovering when paralysis
of the throat was marked, and advised
to pay particular attention to those that
were not affected.

Alonzo Cogblan, Arnprior, who has

with this in his possession he absconded..
It is supposed the lawyer used forgery
to accomplish his object.
