Attacking Puslinch Horses. Guelph, Nov. 29,—Mr. John Hanlon, Puslinch, has lost four horses from cerebro -spinal meningitis, a rare disease in this country, and lies four more horses suffering from it. It principally shows itself by paralysis of the throat, thus rendering the administration of medi- cine impossible. There Is a dulness in the first stago, and the animal will drink very slowly. Then ho has intense thirst but cannot drink. When he gets down he is not able to rise. Whether the disease is infectious or not veterinary science has not yet discovered. Veterinary Sur- geons Ireland and Reid made a thorough examination of the premises and the farm, and could find nothing that was likely to give rise to the disease except from the water. The buildings wererdis- infected, the well cleaned out, the surviv- ing four horses removed to another building and everything possible done to keep the disease from spreading if it should be infectious. Dr. Smith, Princi- pal of the Ontario Veterinary College, was telephoned to in connection with the case. Ho replied that, as a rule, those affected would die, as he never knew of one recovering when paralysis of the throat was marked, and advised to pay particular attention to those that were not affected.
