Mrs. Cole, who lives at the south-

A caucus of the Patron members of
the Local Legislature was held yes-
terday afternoon at the Grand Union
Hotel, but when questioned about It

spirits. When asked ifthere was any-
thing new outside of the caucus Mr.
Haycock laughingly replied, "Oh, yes,

George Smith, who was serving a
short term at the Central Prison, met
with a fatal accident on Friday after-
noon. He was "pinching” cars in the
coal yaeds., when one of the cars
struck him. He was attended by Dr.
Atkins and Dr. Cameron, but be died
at 6 o'clock on Saturday afternoon.
Coroner Lyncl held an inquest at the

A Belleville despatch yesterday said :
"Rev_ Dr. Wellington Jeffers died at
this his home here is afternoon after a
long illness from pneumonia. Deceased,
who was born in Cork, Ireland, nearly
12 years ago, was ordained in 1841, and
had his first charge here in that year.
