A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.—A most seri-
ous accident befell Mr. John Irvine, of
the 13th con. of Usborne, on Sunday
night last. It seems he wont out to
the barn to feed the horses, and after
getting up in the mow for some hay,
he aecidentall,y fell to the floor, a dis-
tance of several feet, and in the fall
broke his spine. His wife being ill at
the time, did not notice his absence, and
not being able to get to the house, he
remained in the barn in his distressing
condition till morning. His son, who
had been out driving the same even.
ince, came home and in the horse,
but without discovering his father or
his absenee. It was not till next morn-
ing that his absence was missed, and
the son., on going to the barn, found
him prostrate and almost dead, He
was at once removed to the house and
medical aid summoned, and he is now
lying in a most critical condition.
Spumes Aomemierr.—A sad accident
heepisnec,1 here on Sunday afternoon.
When the Misses Kate and Nora Car-
roll, of the Sth con. of McGillivray, were
driving into the village, their horse
took fright at a passing bicycle and
threw'them out of the buggy. They
were taken to the residence of R. Cob
leigh and medical aid summoned, when
it was found one of the young ladies'
had her collar bone broken and one of
her ribs, which preSsed upon the lungs;
while the other had sustained a con-
cussion of the brain, which left her
insensible. At the time of writing
(Wednesday), she still lies in a comotose
condition. They are both in a very
critical state, but we hope for their re•
covery.

Grand. Bend Park.
After a few days visit to Grand Bend
Park, I feel somewhat under obliga-
tion to our readers and also the gen-
ial proprietor, for some brief remarks
concerning this famous and popular
summer resort. It is only a few years
since these delightful and attractive
pleasure grounds have been sought
and since its inception thousands have
availed themselves of the pleasure its
various advantages as a recreation and
summer -outing grounds afford. At
this period of the year, dressed in
natures garb, it presents indescribable
beauty, where the tropical foliage is
luxuriant and graceful as an Indian
forest, and where the overhauging
pines, oaks and various other beautiful
trees bend down their wreath of green
to form the grateful shade, there lies
before one such a panorama of loveli-
ness that the pen refuses to attempt its
painting With all the beautiful scen-
ery, salubrious and invigorating
breezes that wafts from the prettiest
lake in all Canada, the boating privi-
leges and various other attractions,
one seeking a summer outing cannot
afford to overlook this magnificent re-
sort. Mr. Spackman has spared neither
money nor pains in perfecting these
delightful pleasure grounds and mak-
ing it what it is to -day, ant' he now can
boast of the loveliest park on Lake
Huron. Thus far the number of visit-
ors have been incalulable and they
still continue to flock in from all cniart.
ers. There is a daily 'bus from' Park-
hill, which is thirteen miles; and. a tri-
weekly ono frota Exeter, which is
fifteen miles, thus affording the out.
side public ample accomodation in
reaching the park at very little cost. •
One most desirable feature of the park
is the social surroundings, all being
harmonious and enjoying themselves to-
gether. The evenings are whiled away
in various amusements, concerts etc.
The writer, while there had. the
pleasure of acting as chairman of one
of those concerts on Thursday night,
which was indeed of a high order, and
would do credit to any community.
Considerable could be said about this
grand resort but as space will not
permit, I can only further say if tour-
ists and those seeking a pleasant outing
they cannot do better than spend a few
weeks at Grand. Bend Park.

Goderich: Deputy Sheriff Reynolds
who, with Constable John Knox, took
George Davie, alias Dr. Lockhart to
Kingston last week, had an experience
with the prisoner which both are like-
ly to rernenaber. When near Scarboro,
Knox went forward in the car and
Davie asked the deputy to be allowed.
a drink of water. The latter of course
consented and followed the doctor to
therear end of the car, when the latter
surprised him by making a dash for
the door and onto the platform, thence
to the ground, the train going slowly.
" Bob ' was equel to the erneregency
however, and quickly landed on. his
prisoner, and they had a tough female
for it, but Reynolds finally got his man
subdued, not however without getting
one of his thumbs badly bitten by the
scallawag, who had managed to release
one of his hands from the handcuffs io
the car. Constable Knox arrived
shortly after and Davie was eventually
safely landed within the stone walls.
As his sentence is lighter than he de-
serves it is to be hoped it may be added
to very materially for this last exploit.
