ron held is meeting here on Wednese
day, when a very interesting and pro-
fitable time wee spent; the concert in
the evening, as usual, was well attend-
ed. -Mr., Bernard Thnmson, who a few
weeks ago went to Michigan, with the
intention of making his home there,
will return in a few days, his son-in-
law, Mr. Fisher, having already arrived
-no place like Ontario.

Quite a number of Sodomites attend-
ed the anniversary of the R. T. of T,
Centralia on Friday evening last and
report having a good time. Every
thing chat was proper to do was done
to make an enjoyable evening; every
thing was in harn ony and every one
pleased, The chairmen hi giving their
discessions were r ided by wisdom,
coupled with a desire to let harmony
prevail. I can assure our Centralia
friends that it would be a very may
matter to have as go again.

Mr. S.Switzer bas an immense num-
ber of log on hand this winter. The
yard is completely filled. ---It is with
regret that we learn of the death of
Mrs Spikett (nee Miss Lizzie McPhee.)
The deceased was a daughter of Mr.
Jonathan McPhee and was well and
widely knowie having resided here all
her life until a few years ago when she
married Mr. Spikett, of Detroit About
a year ago her health failed and on
Wednesday death relieved her suffer-
ings. Her remains were brought to
Parkhill on Friday and on Saturday
yore followed from her father's resi-
dence to Mt. Carmel cemetery by a
large number' of sorrowing friends,
The sympathies of the community are
tendered to the bereaved family.

DEBATE.- At the anniversary of the
Centralia R.T.of T's on Friday evening
last a most interesting debate took place
between some members of the Sodom
council and Centralia council. The sub
ject was, "Resolved that men exercise a
more .beneficial influence on society
than women" For the affirmative were
Rev. W. El. Butt, James Delgaty, Wm.
Haggith and Jessie Elston; for the
negative, Chester Prouty, Wm Harris
and Silas Stanlake, jun. Each speak
ere was allowed ten minutes and the
negative side was given an additional
ten minutes owing to the absence of one
of their speakers. J. P. Clarke of Exe-

Mr, Jas Scott, wife and family, of Sib
bort, visited friends in this neighbor-
hood on Saturday last, -Miss Bella
Cottle, who has been stopping with her
sister, Mrs. Campbell. in klitibert for
two weeks, has returned home. -Mrs.
Robb, teacher of No. 8, school, and Thos.
Duncan, teacher of Whelen school,
spent last Saturday and Sunday with
their parents.- Mr,R. Barnes, of Exeter,.
de,borned 27 head of cattle for Andrew
Hodgert last Saturday, using the clip-
pers whicb seems to give good satis-
faction.. -Mr. William Moodie, who has
been a tenant on D. MeNiehol's farm
for the last 5 years has purebased the
farm formerly owned by the late Henry
Perkins on the 5th con. Ushorne, pa,y-
ing $5,500 for the same. Mr. Moodie
takes possession some time next fall
A sad and melancholy death happened
about one mile and a half north of this
village late Saturday morning. Mr.
Walter Gardiner a highly respected
and weleknown resident of this neigh-
borhood, dropped dead while in the act
of rising out of bed. Heart trouble is
supposed to have been the cause of his
sudden demise, of which dee.eased had
been a victim for a number of years.
Deceased had arrived at the age of
61 years. He leaves a widow and a
large family -mostly all grown up -
besides a large circle of friends and
relatives to mottrn his demise The re-
mains Were followed, by a largo con
course of people to their last resting

Social parties have been the rage for
some ttme. Some get storm -staved and
have to shovel their way home in the
morning. Life has its bright and dark
sides as well. -The petition which is
being circulated for the new pest office
is being largely s!gned and very
soon will be on its way to Ottawa. May
success attend it, and may the people
here soon be in possession of all the
modern aceommodations, including a
telephone connection with Exeter -Mr,
W. Prid ham, M. P., was in the neighbor-
hood last week. The air begins to sniff
a little like an election in the near fu
ture. Mr. P. will no doubt find when
the time comes that the people appreci-
ate his christian integrity and general
worth, -We are sorry to record the
death of Mrs. John Harris a respected
citizen of this neigheorhood, which sad
event took place on Sunday evening
last after a lingering illness borne with
christian fortitude. Deceased was a
daughter of the late Mr. Wakeland, of
Exeter. The funeral took place on
Monday last and was largely attended,
the remains being iitterrebd in the Exe•
ter cemetery, The berea,ved relatives
have the sympatey of the people of the
community.
Seaforth: At a meeting held at the
Royal hotel, on Monday, to decide
whether to make cheese or butter at
the factory this season, it was decided
to make cheese. A strong committee
of patrons was chosen to manage the
business, to canvas the district for milk,
and to report at is meetitig to be held
at the same place on Saturday 9th.
Lucent A very pretty wedding took
place in the Methodist Church, Lucan,
Ont on Wednesday evening', Feb 27th,
whee Miss Annie Burgess, granddaugh-
ter of Th.os. Orme, Esq., was united in
marriage to Mr. John Bloomfield, ef
Luean. Miss Orme, M E L , of London,
assisted, the bride, while Mn. G. Bloom.
field, of Byron, acted as groomsman.
At the close ef the marriage ceremony
the bride was presented with a beauti
ful onyx clock, aeconapanied by a eu-
logistic address from the choir and con-
gregation, in yet:ovation of the valued
services rendered as organist. PTOm
the ehurch, which was beautifully dec-
orated with flowers and ribbons, the
guests repaired to the residence of Mr.
Orme, where is bountiful replied and
Social evening was enjoyed by all.

received The happy pair left for their
home amid showers of congratUlations,
