NATIONAL PREJUDICES VANQUISH-
ED•.—THE TRIUMPHS OF A GREAT
DISCOVERY.
The magnetic influence of gold attraots
the people of eyery clime to our shores.
Men of all nations, and speaking all lan-
guages of oivilization, are to be found congre-
gated on our auriferous plains. Differing
in all other things in their customs, habits,
and religion—yet there ie one point upon
which their opinions coincide. Englishmen
and Americans, Frenole, Swigs, Germans,
Swedes, Italians, and Chinese, admit, with-
out a dissenting voice, that the great rem-
edieaintroduoed to the world fortyyears ago
by Holloway are better adapted to the ogre
of diseases in this climate than any other
preparations in existence. This appears,
in fact, to bo the experience of mankind in
all parts of the world, and henoe universal
popularity of these medicines. We consid-
er, however, that the boundless confidence
placed in their efficacy by the represent-
atives of so many nations at the mince, is a
striking phenomenon in medical history.
Many of those people in their youth, and
even at maturity, were accustomed to the
neo of drugs stud nostrums peculiar to their
several oountries. These remedies were
connected in their minds with associations
of home, and indorsed, as it wore, by the
national prejudices. Yet they have boon
thrown aside and utterly repudiated, while
Holloway's Pills and Ointment have boon
adopted by a oommon impulse throughout
the entire gold regions. There is only one
way of accounting for thismovement. It is
the result of conviction—nonviotiongtonnd-
od on personal observation and experience.
Tho Ointment is used with such wonder
Sul snooty.1ae a dressing for wounds, ulcers,
and sore legs, and for ell the external dise-
ases and eaenities to which the adventurous
gold hunter peculiarly liable, that scarcely
a digger's tont can be found within the vast
area of the gold fields unprovided with a
stook of this healing, soothing, cooling pre-
aration. The hard fare of the digger, and
sometimes hia habits, tend to vitiate the
blood and develop running soros and purul-
ent ulcers of the body and limbs. Bad legs
especially, are very common at the diggings,
and seriously interfere with the labours of
the diggers. The worst oases of thie class
are cured by the Ointment with extraordin-
ary rapidity. The boat method of healing
sono lege, and sores and ulcers generaliy,
is by rubbing the Ointment into the inflam-
ed parts around the orifice, first opening the
pores and softening the flesh with warm la-
mentations. The part affected is then dress-
ed with lint or linen saturated with the
Ointment. Stich is ttie external treatment,
but it ie also proper to give the patient a
few doses of pills during the progress of the
cure, as they serve to purify the blood and
discharge morbid matter from the system,
while the Ointment is doing its work on the
surface.—The Scientific Witness.
No OTIIER Sarsaparilla has the merit by
which Hood's Sarsaparilla has won such a
firm hold upon the confidence of the people.
No Omen combines the economy and
strength which make "100 doses one dollar”
true only of Hood's Sarsaparilla.
No OTII£R possesses the combination,
proportion and protein which make Hood's
Sarsaparilla peculiar til itself,
Hood's Pills cure sink headache.
CABINET BECONBTBUCTICN.—A. popular
topic is cabinet reconatruotion, which really
does not ooncern the public so much as the
reconstruction and cleansing of the human
system against the approach of spring.
The premier medicine for this purpose is
Burdock Blood Bitters, and both parties
recognize it as the beet blood purifier and
general system regulator known.

BRIEFS.—Mrs. Dunlop, of Petrolea, oame
- to see her mother on Friday. Mr. John
Kennedy, who has been in the lumber woods
for the last five months, returned home on
Saturday looking fairly moll.—Mr. Silas
Gratteau has rented Mre. Baahand's Store
here and will open up shortly in the mer-
cantile business.—Mrs. Bachand is leaving
Grand Bend for a time to reside with her
daughter —We deeply regret to announce
the death of Mrs. Wm. Faille, one of the
firs; settlers in this district, and a lady who
was highlyrespected and esteemed by all.
The cause of death was heart :trouble, from
which she suffered for a number of years.
Deceased was 64 years of age, and her bus-
' band, lour sons and five daughters survive
her. The sons, W. B., Grand Bond poet-
• master,James of Parlthill,Thomas and John
who work the farm. The daughters are
Mrs. R. Faulton, M oh., Mrs. D.inlop, Pe-
trolea, Mrs. R. 3. Fallis, Arkwright, Mrs.
Patterson Newbenrry,'Mich., and Barbara,
who is at home. Her death will be kseuly
felt by the family as she was a loving wife
and a kind mother. Her' end was peace
and she sank to rest in the sore and certain
hope of a'joyous resurrection in the land
where separation is unknown. She was a
kind and obliging neighbor and her honesty
and integrity in all words and deeds endear-
ed her to a very large circle of friends. The
respect in which she was held was fitly
shown on Friday when the remains were
followed to their last resting place at Grand
Bend Cemetery. The family will have the
heart felt sympathy of the entire commun-
ity.
