Masters and Eagles tie
EXETER — The Exeter
Masters took on the White
Eagles from Nilestown
Friday night in Exeter,
coming away with a 3-3
draw.
Exeter scored first on a
nice solo effort by Rob
Peat when he controlled
the ball inside the 18-yard
line, beat a couple of
defenders, and placed the
ball to the inside corner.
Exeter took a 2-0 lead
into the second half when
Tony Van Den Heuvel
found himself alone in
front and scored easily.
The White Eagles scored a
disputed goal when the
ball apparently didn’t
cross the line. The Masters
continued to play and
were rewarded on a hard
shot by Peter Hakvoort.
With a 3-1 lead and in
control of the game,
Exeter appeared to be on
its way to a victory. But
with little more than five
minutes to play, the White
Eagles scored to make it
3-2.
On the next opportunity
and playing in extra time,
the White Eagles put the
ball in off the goal post.
As in recent games, Exeter
had to settle for the tie.
The Masters finish their
season on the road tonight
(Wednesday) at Cove Road
in London.
