The residence of Thos Atkinson, 2ncl
con., Biddnlph, narrowly escaped be-
ing burned clown the ether night. Mr.
Atkinson and his Wife had gone to a
neighbors to spetld the evening' leav-
ing a fire in the firb•place, which was
the cause of the blaze. The fire was
seen in time by some neighbors who
quickly extinguished it, but not .before
a large hole had been burnt in the floor
and some furniture destroyed.
