One of the most successful if not the
most successful entertainment ever

acquitted themselves well the great
attraction of the evening was the Har-
mon -lea Club from London, who, ' suc-
ceeded in delightin • the large aud-
ience with their splendid selections.
The enchores they received justly test-
ified the people's 's a reciation of their
p pp
efforts. Should this club see fit to re-
turn at some future time they may be
sure of a right royal welcome. Mr.
Thomas Scott sangseveral songs which
were well received. Mr. and Miss. Wal-
den, of St. Marys, also added material-
ly to the program by giving two very
Vice selections. The Literary part of
the program • was carried out by Mess-
ers G. W. Holman, James Clarke and
Masters H. and P. Brown. At the close
of the entertainment the presents on
the Christmas tree were distributed
and gladdened the hearts of young and
old. Rev.' John Russel, pastor, occupi-

About midnight on Christmas eve a
young man named Donald McIntosh
went to a house occupied by a Mrs.
Caarey,Goderich,a woman of questionable
character, and tried to gainadmittalnee,
which•was refused. He persisted in
trying to get in and would not go
away, and after a time a boy about 14
years of age, named Bedour, who is.
said to be visiting at Carey's, arose
from bed and went outside to get Mc
Intosh to leave. ',After some 'conver-
sation between them McIntosh drew a
In•

the breast. McIntosh was arrested Mon-
terday morning by Constable Yule and
brought`before the mayor to day, but
as Bedour is lying in a critical con-

eight days. Bedour, whose father was
recently sent to the insane asylum, is
a resident of Port Albert, in this coun-

On Thursday evening the Boston
church sunday school, held their ann-
ual Christmas entertainment in the
church. The weather was all that
could be desired and the audience was
large and in the best of humor. Large
numbers came from the surrounding
country and Parkhill, and when the
program was started the church was
crowded, while some were standing at
the door not being able to get any fur-
ther. Conspiucous for their number and
generous appearance were the little
folks. The program was a lengthy
one, consisting of vocal, and instru-
mental music, readings; recitations' and.
dialogues, the chair was taken by the
superintendent of the school, Mr. W. J.
Wilson, who carried o.. the program
to the end as specdly as possibly. The
loud applause and numerous enchores
showing how much the efforts of the
performers were appreciated. Mrs.
lJlens and Miss J. Whiteside deserve
great credit for the careful way in
which the children had been trained
s
in order to perform their parts in thep
pleasing manner they did. The pres-
ents were arraiin ed on a "Jacob's lad-
der" nearly
ad-der"nearly 20 feet high with trees on
each side. Many Hearts were made glad
by the thought that they had friends
that remembered diem. Over 3100 pre. -
encs were given out. The proceeds
amounted to ,$x135•'15.
