Well the drearies are certainly
having their way this week, making
one seriously think about hauling out
the winter clothes. Nothing like a
few cool days with a touch of rain
and a little wind to feel that serious
weather coming on.
The time seems to go so fast
between the short sleeves and shorts
and the fleece-lined whatevers. Once
again we must be having a good time
‘cause the lime sure slips away. So
much for October.
The autumn decorations around
the village are so nice to see. Themes
of Thanksgiving were enjoyed by
many and then were reconfigured
10 at Melville Guild
The October meeting of Brussels
Melville Guild was held in the
church parlour on Tuesday evening
Oct. 18 with 10 members present.
Leona Armstrong welcomed
everyone and read the call to
worship. Come Ye thankful People
Come was sung.
A moment’s silence was observed
in memory of Jeanne Ireland, a long
time member of the Guild.
Alice Marks read a poem. Be
Thankful and a story, God’s
Promise. The scripture Psalm 100
was read in unison and Mrs. Marks
led in prayer.
The topic. Thanksgiving, was read
by Mrs. Armstrong and a poem,
Autumn Delight, was read by Mrs.
Marks. For the Fruits of His
Creation was sung and Mrs.
Armstrong led in prayer to close this
part of the meeting.
Mrs. Armstrong presided over the
business. She read a poem.
Thanksgiving Is a Time For
Remembering, then thanked
everyone for helping with the
barbecue. She also thanked the
women who went to the fall rally in
Molesworth and Dona Knight for
setting up the fall fair display.
The minutes of the September
meeting were read and approved.
The treasurer's report was given by
Jeanne Kirkby.
Dona Knight and Jean Bewley will
be in charge of the November
meeting.
A contest about turkeys was
enjoyed by all. Lunch was served by
Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Marks.
Lodge donates to parade
into a new Halloween scene. Very
nice folks, and thank you for taking
the time. Take a drive or a stroll and
enjoy the artistry in our midst.
Auctions seems to have a life of
their own; it’s easy to see why
people attend them. Each sale has a
different sent of factors What’s
available, who is in attendance, how
badly will I compete to buy the item
and how is my money holding up?
All these questions and more were
evident as the members of the board
of stewards of the United Church
hosted its auction last Saturday.
Wonderful items were available
and lots of folks went home with
Christmas gifts all ready to give. The
donations are always a surprise, and
the support and generosity of our
congregation is what makes this is a
success every two years. So enjoy
your purchases and thank you for
your support, it was fun once again.
The Girl Guides were on their
cookie run on Saturday. The one
answering the door at this house is
still smiling. Standing innocently
with boxes of cookies in hand was a
young lady with a good ring of
melted chocolate around her mouth
asking if we’d like to buy cookies. A
smile returns every time we have a
cookie. Perhaps it’s the Girl Guide
way of ensuring sales or their way of
testing product or perhaps just
tempting treats whatever. It certainly
worked on this end of Turnberry
Street.
Have a nice week and don’t forget
to get your fall bulbs planted.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
