Obituaries
META BRADWIN
On Oct. 7, 2005, Meta Bradwin,
youngest daughter of A.E. Bradwin
and Selena Emigh, died in Toronto
and was buried in Park Lawn
Cemetery, Toronto on Oct. 11, 2005.
Her mother, Selena, was daughter
of John G. Emigh and Anne
McNames, and was born and grew
up in Blyth. Her father, A.E.
Bradwin was editor of The Blyth
Standard from 1892 to 1906. He
also served on Blyth council. Meta
Bradwin’s grandfather, John G.
Emigh, was Blyth’s first fire chief,
appointed in 1888. He lived most of
his life in Blyth.
Meta was bom a few years after
the Bradwins left Blyth. Both
Spiletta from Goderich.
The film intends to provide the
audience with an inside look at a
rural school, youth culture and
violence and victimization.
“We wanted to ensure young
people knew they were being
heard,” Bonnie Baynham,
community developer for the health
unit said. The program was initiated
from local reports of focus groups
with teens.
“Overwhelming numbers of
students expressed concern with the
level of violence and bullying
occurring at school,” a press release
from the health unit stated.
Steckle supported the program
stating that “some people think that
families had strong ties! to the village
of Blyth.
Some of the older residents might
remember Meta holidaying with her
grandparents and Aunt Allie.
Meta was one of eight children:
Milton, Lorena, Charles, Emigh
(called “Brad”), Alice, Franklin,
Edward, and Meta. Franklin was
editor of Mitchell's newspaper.
In earlier years, Meta travelled
extensively throughout the world. A
family member describes her as
“very well read and informed with
an intelligent curiosity”.
Despite her advanced years
she gave up driving only a few
months ago. She was 93 years of
age.
we’re throwing money away. It’s
very difficult to get money from the
government but I think this is a good
cause.”
Baynham said that talking about
bullying and other key issues is
important rather than teaching.
“The best part is that youth made
this happen, it was done by them,”

she said. “I didn’t expect the quality
to be as top-notch as it is [in the
film]. The [youth involved] are very
skilled and I’m proud to be a part of
this program.”
The program is expected to be
implemented in January in
secondary schools across Huron
County. Baynham said there has
already been interest from other
counties to implement the program.
A large scale youth event is also
planned for the upcoming year.
“We’d like to celebrate the strengths
and abilities of the. youth and
[bullying and abuse] certainly
connect with health,” Baynham
said.
