The Citizen, 2005-10-20, Page 914 at UCW The Evening Unit of the Belgrave United Church Women held its October meeting at the home of Mabel Wheeler with 14 members present. Mrs. Wheeler opened the meeting with a poem. Begin the Day. Lorna Cook opened the worship with prayer, and Myrtle Pengally read the scripture. Following a hymn Mrs. Cook read the meditation of Praise as Thanksgiving, the story of the bent­ over woman. She closed with prayer. Mrs. Wheeler then read an article entitled Look On the Right Side of Life. The roll call was answered by a favourite memory of the fowl supper. Muriel Coultes read the minutes, which were approved and gave the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Wheeler gave the card report. The November meeting will be at the home of Norma Moore. The Huron-Perth Presbyterian fall rally was announced for Monday. Oct. 24 at the Exeter United Church with registration at 6:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to go can contact Mary Hunter or Mrs. Coultes. Following the showing of the video. Cotton Patch Ministries, the group did a contest led by Mrs. Cook. Lunch was served by Myrtle Pengally. Donna Shaw and Mrs. Wheeler and a social time followed. PAGE 9 Patients of Over the moon Grade 1 students at East Wawanosh participated in a workshop from the Foundation for Enriching Education called Save the Moon. The workshop, based on the storybook called Architect of the Moon, gave students the opportunity to build a spaceship and travel to the moon, using role-play, movement, music, story creation and artwork. JAN RACZYCKI 482-1442 The family of Bill and Muriel Coultes celebrated Thanksgiving Day together at their home in Belgrave on Sunday, Oct. 9. The following day, they received word that their granddaughter Lisa Matheson, daughter of Mark and Janice Matheson, has been awarded the OAC Dean’s Scholarship. This award is given to the students who have been on the Dean’s Honour List for two consecutive semesters and have achieved the highest overall marks with their semester level and program. Lisa is enrolled in the Ag-. Business Course, and entering her third year. She is presently employed for a work term by OFAC, the Ontario Farm Animal Council. She will receive her award at the OAC Awards Reception on Nov. 4 in Guelph. Ted Wilson of Langley, British Columbia passed away on Oct. 4 after a short battle with cancer. Bill and Muriel Coultes were among 52 former members of the London Conference Young Peoples Union executive who met in Siloam United Church, London. on Saturday, Oct. 15. This was to be a celebration of 50 years of alumni executive, and also the last reunion. In 1955, when the alumni was started. Bill and Muriel were on the Conference YPU executive, and that is where they met. The morning opened with registration, singing, fellowship and mixers and lunch was served by the ladies and men of Siloam. Ethel Allison one of the longest- serving members of the executive paid a tribute to the United Church and the former Young Peoples Union. Benson Sutter conducted an In Memoriam for those who had died in the past year. The guest speaker was Rev. Kenneth Welch who spoke of YPU as Yearning, Understanding. Paul Blakwill, Alumni included “The YPU of the United Church of Canada no longer exists as we remember it, but youth do, and we should always recognize that fact. Youth today are active in our faith communities and need our support in their endeavors. We can encourage them, support (hem, counsel them when asked, and set a faith example for them to follow. Fifty years from now the youth today, loo, will remember the Christian experiences of their youth, and the souls who shared God’s love with them.” Rev.
