Milestone

Snells wed 65 years
It was a milestone to be celebrated
as Ernest and Anna Snell marked 65
years of marriage at an open house
in Westfield Hall on Saturday
afternoon.
Ernest was the son of Gordon and
Ella Snell, while the bride was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin
McDowell.
Following their marriage in 1940
Ernest and his new bride established
a chicken business in East
Wawanosh. This was followed by a
hatching business in 1945-46, then
the addition of feed in 1949.
A farm implement business was
begun in 1957 and in 1962 they
incorporated Snell Feed and Seed.
Ernest was also a community as
well as a business leader. In 1961 he
was elected to East Wawanosh
council. He served one term before
becoming reeve in 1963.
He stepped down at the end of that
term, but was elected again in 1985,
1988 and 1991.
The Snells raised a family of six
— sons, Ronald, Marvin and Bill,
and daughters Elaine, Mary and
Edythe.
Living a Caring Faith HIV/AIDS
was the theme for the Maitland
Presbyterian Fall Rally held on
Monday, Sept. 19 in Molesworth.
The Molesworth WMS served a pork
supper.
The Nightingales of Listowel
shared their gift of music and led in
a sing-song.
Agnes Bregman welcomed all and
constituted the meeting. Rev. Olwyn
Coughlin of Molesworth brought
greetings from the session and the
congregation.
Living historians visit Huron
Huron County will get a glimpse
of ‘history brought back to life’ at
Branch 109 of the Royal Canadian
Legion in Goderich on Friday, Oct.
28 at 6:30 p.m. The Huron County
Historical Society is presenting the
ultimate level of involvement in the
history buff’s pursuit of their passion
with the past.
The average passion to research,
learn, preserve and be entertained by
history can take on another meaning
when we immerse ourselves into an
era and try to duplicate as closely as
we can the truth, as we know it to
have been. To live as a participant,
not just as a spectator.
Living history and the re-enacting
of specific periods of the past is a
growing path that history buffs are
taking in Canada and around the
world. This glimpse will give a look
at historians wearing period
reproduction attire or authentic
period clothing.
These are not costumes. A

Samaritan. Struggles remind how
fragile people are and that with
God’s help they can help others in
need.
Several items of business were
dealt with. The Nightingales shared
their gift of music.
Marilyn MacIntyre of South
Kinloss introduced the guest speaker
Rev. Anne Yy-Hibbs, area education
consultant. She introduced the new
costume needs only to appear
authentic to the level of approximate
visual accuracy where re-production
attire is made in much the same way
as the originals, and with the same
materials as the originals with much
research gone into the process and
the historical accuracy of design and
construction. Many are accurate
right down to the undergarments.
Confirmed to attend are re
enactors, of a number of eras
including Roman, French and Indian
War, War of 1812, American Civil
War, Great War, and World War II. A
number of nations will be
represented in this historical display.
The theme of the annual dinner
presentation will be to learn about
who these people are in society, the
lengths they go to pursue their
passion, where they get or how they
make their clothing and equipment,
what they do, how far they travel
and what it is like to immerse
themselves and often their families.

people understand the disease and
how to give support to the caregivers
of the patients^and orphans.
People can work together through
prayers and donations of money to
the cure of this devastating
disease.
The givings to Presbyterian World

There will be no discussion of the
politics of history, only the passion
and the attempt for historical
accuracy. The dinner guests will be
entertained, enlightened, and very
well fed.
