(Heather Crawford photo) Snells wed 65 years It was a milestone to be celebrated as Ernest and Anna Snell marked 65 years of marriage at an open house in Westfield Hall on Saturday afternoon. Ernest was the son of Gordon and Ella Snell, while the bride was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin McDowell. Following their marriage in 1940 Ernest and his new bride established a chicken business in East Wawanosh. This was followed by a hatching business in 1945-46, then the addition of feed in 1949. A farm implement business was begun in 1957 and in 1962 they incorporated Snell Feed and Seed. Ernest was also a community as well as a business leader. In 1961 he was elected to East Wawanosh council. He served one term before becoming reeve in 1963. He stepped down at the end of that term, but was elected again in 1985, 1988 and 1991. The Snells raised a family of six — sons, Ronald, Marvin and Bill, and daughters Elaine, Mary and Edythe. Living a Caring Faith HIV/AIDS was the theme for the Maitland Presbyterian Fall Rally held on Monday, Sept. 19 in Molesworth. The Molesworth WMS served a pork supper.
