A wild storm last week caused power outages and wind
damage in the area. The strong winds woke Darryl
Hastings in the early morning hours, Thursday. He said he
was just thinking about waking his wife, Bonnie, and son,
Colton, and heading for the basement when he heard a
loud noise. A portion of a tree on the south side of his house
fell and knocked down a chimney. (Bonnie Gropp photo)

Clerk
responds
to letter
to editor
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
North Huron clerk-administrator
John Stewart took a few minutes at
Monday night’s council/meeting to
respond to a letter to the editor that
had been published in the Sept. 22
issue of The Citizen.
The writer had been less than
pleased with the change of name for
Drummond Street East to Brechen
Street. The change was a result of a
request from 911.
“I mean no disrespect to the
writer,” said Stewart. “Everyone
should be able to express an opinion.
But we went through a process.”
Residents had been contacted to be
given a chance to select the name of
their street. The number one choice
was Kelly Street. However, this was
rejected by 911 because there are
similar names within the county, said
Stewart. “Any time there is a name
already used in the county they
won’t let you use it.”
The second choice was Brechen
and this was the one that 911 would
accept.
“The writer indicated that council
pulled this name out on their own.
That was not the case,” said Stewart,
adding that he had received a
number of calls regarding the letter.
“Again it’s misinformation.”
