PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO Neighbours along Main Street have bid adieu to Rob and Yvonne Wilts, Vanessa, Jeremy and Jason. This busy young family will be missed in the village. For the present time they have taken up residence on the 13th of Hullett, cross the road from the former Student council elects slate o f officers Elections for the student council at Hullett Central Public School have taken place and the slate of officers for 2005-2006 is as follows: president, Tyler Middegaal; vice- president. Robyn Kassies; secretary. Happy birthday Edythe Beacom of Londesborough enjoys visiting with friends at an open house held in Clinton this past weekend in honour of her 90th birthday. Over 200 people attended. A dinner for some 50 relatives and long-time friends was held following the open house. (Photo submitted) Woman celebrates 90th birthday Scores of well-wishers dropped by the Betty Cardno Centre in Clinton last Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2 to help Edythe Beacom celebrate her 90th birthday. She obviously enjoyed reminiscing with everyone who came along the line. Folks attended from Michigan, Chatham, London, Calgary and Dawson Creek as well as the more immediate area to honour this birthday. Edythe was raised on the 13th of Hullett on the farm now owned by her nephew, Bob Beacom. For most of her adult life she has lived in the same house on Main Street in Londesborough. Over the years she has been a faithful member of, and willing worker in, the Londesborough United Church. Therefore a goodly number of area friends and neighbours, past and present, were there to wish her a happy birthday. Edythe taught elementary school for 37 years, from 1936 to 1973. For the majority of those years she was in schools in Huron County and her well-wishers included many former colleagues and pupils. It is difficult to appreciate the many changes Edythe has seen in the society and the world in her 90 years. She must have been a wealth of history information to her pupils and family over the years. It is to Rice’s Store. To long-time area folk this was once the Nelson Lear farm. The Wilts's home has been purchased by Jason Moir and Crystal Parks. Jason, from the Seaforth area works at the Benmiller Falls Conservation Area for the Ministry of Natural Resources. Crystal from Clinton, is an elementary school teacher doing supply work in area schools. The couple previously lived in Goderich. Welcome to Londesborough, folks. The sympathy of the community is extended to Tom and Marjorie Duizer and family on the death of Marjorie’s mother and former Londesborough resident, Addie Hunking. Addie was also Angela her credit that she continues to keep a keen interest in today’s every- changing world. In good health and having recently undergone cataract surgery and passing her driver’s test, Edythe is ready to tackle more of life for some time yet. Our condolences to all of you. Lorne and Addie built a home in Londesborough (now home to Tom and Marjorie), around 1970. They came to the village when their farmhouse on the 13th of Hullett was destroyed by fire. That experience convinced Addie that nothing in life can be taken for granted. I recall her saying that from that time forward she was going to “go" whenever an opportunity arose for as along as she was able. Those of us who knew Addie remember that she did just that, taking an active part in Londesborough United/UCW and the Women's Institute. Danielle Bean; vice-secretary. Cassie Salverda; treasurer, Sheldon Reid; vice-treasurer. Heather Hulley. Other students on the slate, in training, are Will Fleming, Jennifer Snell and Heather Gibson. Congratulations to all of you.
