Women’s Institute
holds rally in Belgrave

PRO Huron West District
The 54th Huron County Women’s
Institute Rally was hosted by Huron
West District and Belgrave Women’s
Institute at the Belgrave WI Hall on
Monday, Oct. 3. There were 61 in
attendance. The theme was, Living
in Today’s World and View to the
Future. Maitland Branch provided
morning refreshments.
Debbie Bauer, Huron West
president, chaired the meeting.
Opening exercises and reports filled
the morning program. County Rally
secretary-treasurer. Fern Dougall,
read the notice of motion regarding
the division of invested money, to be
voted on during business in the
afternoon.
Cathy Sutherland of Goderich
reported on the Children’s Aid
Bursary. Three young women will
each benefit from this year’s
donation which will be spent on
textbooks for college.
Heather Michie from Heather’s
Fashion Boutique of Wingham
spoke on building a wardrobe. She
had many garments on display to
show how to mix and match with the
basic colours of black and brown.
It was a very interesting
presentation.
Speaker Glenna Ladell, London
Area president, spoke on the theme,
Living in Today’s World and A View
to the Future. She retold a story of
Noah’s Ark. She stated members
should begin with a vision and
follow it through and if they all work
together great things are possible.
Her thought-provoking message was
enjoyed by all.
Comments were given on the
education displays and upcoming
craft courses.
London Area is hosting the
Provincial Conference Aug. 11 -16 at
Fanshawe College, London. The
theme Together Everyone Achieves
More. A large selection of plants and
miscellaneous sale items were sold
quickly following the delicious
potluck noon luncheon.
The singing of hymn All Nations
opened the afternoon session.
President Glenna Ladell brought
greetings from London Area,
Margaret McMachon from Guelph
Area, Jane Dearing from Huron
South District, Darlene Harding
from Huron Perth District and
Marlene Coulthard as voting
delegate for London Area.
The 4-H report was presented by
Kim Higgins. Each year a donation
is given to Friends of 4-H.
Audrey Fenton entertained with
readings. Back in Time, The Old
Schorl Slate and Harvest Time.
St. Helen’s WI is celebrating its
100th Anniversary on Thursday,
Oct. 13, 2 - 4 p.m.
The Huron County Historical
Society’s annual dinner meeting is at
the Legion Hall, Goderich on
Thursday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
The ballot vote on the notice of
motion did not pass. A committee of
one person from each district and
secretary-treasurer of the rally will
meet to bring forward a
recommendation to be voted on at
next year’s fall rally.
