Jingles
roll call
of 4-H
By Ellen Jefferson
On Wednesday. Sept. 28,
Wawanosh 4-H met at June
Robinson’s at 5:30 p.m. for
meetings five and six of their club.
Consuming Passions.
Tina Drennan started the meeting
with the pledge.
She then led roll call. “Can you
sing an advertising jingle?”
Members sang jingles from TSC,
McDonald’s, and other
commercials.
The club members decided on a
name - Supper Shoppers, with a
title page designed by Ellen
Jefferson.
Sophie Jefferson led the
discussion on advertising.The
members talked about what
advertising really means and how
advertisers try to impress people
with big numbers.
They also conversed about how
advertisers use celebrities in
advertising. Advertisers want you to
think if a .celebrity uses this product,
you should too.
Good-looking boxes and bright
colours will also attract people to
products. Next, the members split
into two groups to perform an
activity.
In this activity, members had to
create a marketing strategy for a
bike. Members chose bright colours
and cool accessories to get
customers into buy this bike.
What is your favourite type of
store? Most members said a
clothing store or a mall. Ellen
Jefferson read about how stores
have changed, like before there
were general stores where you
bought everything, and now we
have grocery store, malls and
department stores.
Cathy Drennan taught the
members about the placing of
earrings, candy and accessories by
the counter in stores. They do this
because it makes you want to buy
things at the last minute, without
much thought.
