visiting with family and friends and
attended the plowing match.
Dan Hunter and Lila also
holidayed in the area at the same
time.
The Belgrave Community Club

Touring
FROM BELGRAVE
It was a marvelous day Sunday to enjoy the outdoors, thus a good number of people took
advantage of the Wawanosh Nature Centre’s annual fall tour. Whether walking or riding the
weather made it easy to appreciate the colours of autumn with warm temperatures and sunny

begins
new
season
The Belgrave Women’s Institute
held its first meeting of the new
season with 12 members in
attendance.
The president, Audrey Fenton,
thanked everyone who had helped
with the catered meals during the
summer.
The minutes of the previous
meeting and financial report were
given by Doreen Marks and the
member of volunteer hours was
recorded.
Gladys Van Camp reported on the
quilt show and sale that she and
Nancy Jardin had attended at the
International Centre in
Mississauga.
The program convenor, Wilma
Higgins, had many Tweedsmuir
scrapbooks on display and
encouraged everyone to look
through them in order to appreciate
the work and time spent in
collecting the material for the
community history.
The next meeting will feature a
speaker talking about therapy dogs.
Bruce Museum
re-opens
The sweeping history of Bruce
County has been frozen in time in a
new home. The Bruce County
Museum and Cultural Centre
celebrated its 50th anniversary by
opening the doors on Ontario’s
newest museum Saturday, Sept. 24.
‘The stunning transformation of
the museum on Victoria Street will
delight residents and visitors to the
county year-round with more than
8,000 square feet of interactive
exhibits, space for workshops and
art exhibitions, and a 120-seat
theatre for lectures, concerts and
theatrical events,’’ says Barbara
Ribey, director/curator.
The landmark 1878 stone
schoolhouse now stands shoulder-
to-shoulder with a contemporary
bloom of glass and steel. In a single
glance you can see the resilient
character of the early days of Bruce
County side-by-side with the future
dreams and ambitions of its
residents.
