Visiting with Ralph and Amy McCrea this past Friday were Rex and Pat Bougourd of Point Clark. While here they attended Thresher Reunion. Also visiting with Ralph and Amy were Doug and Betty Jean McCrea and they also attended the Thresher Reunion. It was another beautiful weekend for the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association 44th Reunion. Again as in the past, many turned out to see the old steamers and tractors and attended the pancake breakfast at the fire hall. A good time was had by all. Happy birthday to Edgar Daer of Blyth who celebrates his birthday on Sept. 15. * Happy birthday to Tricia Daer of London who celebrates her birthday Sept. 17. Happy anniversary to Don and Marilyn Craig who celebrate their 44th anniversary Sept. 16. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Sept. 4 was Lois van Vliet. Guest pianist was Amanda Schwartzentruber. Sunday school will be starting next week with a pancake breakfast to which the congregation is invited at 9 a.m. The choir sang an anthem. The children's hymn I’ve Got Peace Like a River was sung. Rev. Robin McGauley showed the children the actions to the song and everyone participated during the singing of the hymn. For the children’s story Rev. McGauley read the story of the parting of the Red Sea. The dolphins were telling the fish not to go there because the fish could not live where the sea had parted. The dolphins were also busy trying to keep the animals where the sea had parted as they couldn't live in the water. The dolphins were able to go back to their way of life when the sea came back to normal and God's people had made it safely across to the promised land and the Pharaoh's soldiers had drown in the sea. The lectionary scripture readings, Romans 14: I-12, the responsive Psalm 15 and Matthew 18: 21-35 were read by Cheryl Cronin. Rev. McGauley’s message to the adults as Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive. Forgiveness is one of the basic teachings of the church. Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive a church member who has sinned against him and Jesus’ answer was seven times 70. Jesus told the parable of the King who forgave his servant his debt because he didn’t have the money to repay him but the servant did not forgive his fellow servant in jail. A moment of silent meditation was followed by the hymn Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive, the prayers of the people and the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. FROM BLYTH Disturbances in Blyth area lead to 2 charges On Sept. 3 at 8:30 p.m. officers were conducting patrol on Queen Street in Blyth. The officers were passing a residence when they heard a lot of yelling, cursing and swearing. The officers stopped and approached a group of people. One male, who became aggressive towards the officers, had to be restrained. A second person tried to intervene but backed off when advised of the situation unfortunately a third did not and was also arrested. A 20-year-old male and a 21- year-old female have both been charged with causing a disturbance. They will attend court in Wingham on Oct. 20. They were held in custody overnight. (Heather Crawford photo) Sorry, our mistake The full amount of a Trillium grant requested to repair Blyth Memorial Hall in the amount of $75,000 will not be given to North Huron, clerk-administrator John Stewart told council at the Sept. 6 meeting. Stewart said some brick work is in need of fixing at the north wall of the building which is expected to be the most costly repair. Also, an inside closet shows moisture behind the plaster in the walls. After council applied for a Trillium grant, two representatives from Trillium were given a tour through the Memorial Hall and expressed “genuine interest in the building,” Stewart said. He stated that the representatives appeared to understand how much the Hall means to the community. Stewart was told that the whole amount would not be given as “no one (who applied for a grant) will be getting their maximums.” It was not yet determined how much money will be allocated to the building. Additional funds are expected to be needed. Stewart said he is not sure how the rest of the money will be obtained yet but is expecting to raise money through fundraising from local service groups. The decision of how much money will be available for the repairs will be announced in October. Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2006. APPOINTMENT There was some misleading information in the Thresher Reunion story on the front page of last week’s issue of The Citizen. The log cabin, which was open to visitors this year, had been moved from its original East Wawanosh property in 2004 and was restored this year. The house was built by John and Janet Cowan circa 1861. We apologize for the error.
