At the Branch Cadets hold first meeting of new year FROM BRUSSELS By Jo-Ann McDonald Cadets held their first meeting at the Brussels Legion on Tuesday evening, Sept. 6 with a good turnout of kids. Youths aged 12-19, who are interested in finding out more about Cadets, are welcome to drop in. In Cadets, you will learn discipline, drills, camping and survival techniques, and will develop self­ confidence and maturity. Meetings are every Tuesday night from 6:30 - 9 p.m. with both male and female instructors. Uniforms are provided and interested youths or parents are welcome to attend. The fish fry crews were working both Friday and Saturday night. On Friday, crew Rick McDonald, Glenn Bridge, George Adams, Lloyd and Mabel Glanville were off to Harriston Legion to feed 175. Saturday’s crew of John Harrison, Bob Bridge and Greg Wilson were off to Ethel to feed 180. Of course the prep crew of Julie Harrison, Sandra Josling and Jo-Ann McDonald (a little late) had everything ready for the job to get done. The Saturday afternoon euchre had nine and a half tables at play. The first-place winners were Carman and Ila Pollock with 80 points. The second-place team of Rita Flynn and Verna Gibbing earned 78 points and third place went to Stuart and Lois Chamney with 73 points. Low prize went to Gord and Louise Bosman with 42 points. Lone-hand prize winners were Janet Mathers and Bush Whittard. Country Motion played at the Sunday night dance where over 80 enjoyed the music. The Ambassador of the Fair program was held on Saturday evening. The Brussels Legion donates the use of the hall to the Brussels Agricultural society for this event. Three ladies vied for the title of Ambassador: Heather Armstrong, Amy Bishop and Yvonne DeWitt who was crowned ambassador. Congratulations to all the girls. The Ambassador contestants did a small job for the Brussels Legion as well Saturday evening, drawing the three eariy bird winning tickets for the elimination draw. The three winners are Jean Davidson, Valerie Shortreed and Ross and Marie- Stephenson, all winning $50 prizes. The elimination draw is Saturday, Sept. 24 and even if you missed the early bird draw, there are 19 chances to win a prize, so drop in and get a ticket at the Branch, the Murray’s Barbershop of Legion member. The general meeting Branch is Tuesday, Sept, 27 at 8 p.m. and we encourage members to attend. The Branch needs more members to become interested in how the Branch runs and attend meetings on a monthly basis. We would love to see more members dropping into the. Branch. New faces, new ideas, new fun. Come out and get involved. The victim said he had left his residence on Sept. 8 at 12:45 p.m. for a half hour When he returned he found that a blue Chev/Pontiac car was backed up to his garage. The owner not knowing whom the vehicle belonged to blocked off the laneway with his vehicle and trailer that he was pulling. He walked up to the garage finding the garage door and inner house door wide open. He entered his residence and found that someone had ransacked the house. While inside he then heard a squealing of tires and saw the blue Equipment stolen from shed On Sept. 6 at 2:45 p.m. a citizen reported the theft of equipment from a shed on Marnoch Line in North Huron. , The officer was advised that someone in the last week entered the shed on the property and stole a Stihl weed eater and a Husqvarna Model #268 chainsaw. The theft is estimated at approximately $500. II anyone has information on this theft call the Wingham OPP office or contact Crime Stoppers. for the Theft from firehall On Sept. 7 at l: 15 p.m. a break-in was discovered at the Brussels firehall located just off Brussels Line. Someone entered the building through the night and stole a small amount of cash and some liquor.
