The Citizen, 2005-05-05, Page 30PAGE 30. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2005. PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo-Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 We send our good wishes to Jason Shortreed who is a patient in hospital. We hope he is feeling better soon. Congratulations to Stefan and Reta Gubelmann on the birth of a Baans greet Greeting at Duff’s United Church were Steve, Teresa, Allison, Scott and Craig Baan. The youth choir sang Wisdom 7 and was joined by the congregation in some verses. The stewardship bear Stubear spent last week with Tyson McGavin. This week he’s spending time with Patti Bank’s grandchildren Brooke and Tyler. Stubear’s message for stewardship was on helping others and sharing with those in need. A collection of clothes not needed anymore can be brought to the church this week, so they can be distributed to those in need through the thrift store or Salvation Army. Marie McGavin was the scripture reader. Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky’s reflection was entitled Wisdom/Sophia. There are many scriptures concerning wisdom to be found in the Bible. The Greek name for wisdom is sophia. The offering was received by Murray Dennis and Neil McGavin. The UCW meeting is Wednesday, May 4 with Neil McGavin speaking. Shannon Craig’s shower is May 13 at the church. Male singers are needed for the chorus to >sing on Father’s Day. Contact Brian Black for info. A secretary for Walton/Bluevale pastoral charge is needed. It requires approximately three hours a week, preparing bulletins and other odd tasks. Call ministry and personnel committee members if interested. Acorns travel The Acorn class at Walton’s Little School has just completed its unit on travel and transportation. The Acorns learned all about how they get places and where they can go. They are progressing with their reading and writing skills. Many of the four-year-old children are reading alone and able to sound out words to write on their own. They welcomed live friends to the Acorn room in the month of april. The Star class has completed Letter of the Week this month. They started the month doing the letters Y and Z. The last two weeks have been review weeks. They have read lots of alphabet books and done crafts with letters. The Stars are looking forward to their book of the week for the month of May. They are starting the first week with The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The Butterfly Class is finishing its farming unit this month. The class enjoyed creating their own barn, dressing as farm animals, and examining the different kinds of food animals eat. Dana Smith is in the class doing her co-op placement for the Lambton College ECE program. The children will miss Dana and all the fun activities she planned throughout her three weeks with them. second daughter Courtney, a wee sister for Catrina. Our sympathies to Allan and Karen Carter and family on the passing of Jack Carter of Seaforth. We are happy to report that Bob Dalton is home from hospital. We hope he’s getting along well. Get-well wishes go out to Dave Perrie who was involved in a traffic accident on the weekend. Dave is a little banged up and his truck suffered a worse fate. It was turkey shooting week last week. Jeanne Kirkby had her son Paul and his friend Brian for a few days to hunt. No luck shooting a turkey but a few groundhogs met their fate. Matt Lee was luckier and shot a good-sized turkey on day one. We look forward to seeing Walton friends at the buck and doe party for Shannon Craig and Dave Soontiens at the Lee farm on the weekend. The Chinchilla club met at the Walton Hall on the weekend. They had meetings in the morning and then enjoyed lunch at the Walton Inn. The afternoon was the showing of the animals. The landscape has changed a little on Walton Road with the old Ritchie/Baan house being torn down. The beautiful new home of Steve and Teresa Baan now stands stately on the property. The month of April finished up with Pat Parr, Marcy McCall ‘ McBain, Mildred Gillis, Don Dalton, Debra Wey, John Huether, Joe Steffler, Dave Lewington, Kelsey Eckert, Candace Newman and Jeremy Welsh celebrating birthdays. May babies start off with Chris Holmes, Hayden Kelso, Chad McCallum, Judy Valley, Bev Fraser, Donny Williamson, Mitchell Godkin, Lori Nolan, Annelies Ringgenberg, Andrea Humphries, Joe Ryan, Veronica Grobbink, Hollie Cook and Joshua Tervit. Celebrating wedding anniversaries are Mark and Shelley Coleman, Henry and Maryann Grobbink, Gerald and Carolyn Sullivan, Jeff and Sarah Grobbink and Hugh and Susan Nichol. Congratulations to young Sean Mitchell who competed at the Walkerton Music Festival last week. A student of Murray Hall, Wroxeter, he played in the six-and-under category for violin and captured first place with a score of 88. He was accompanied by Mary Hall on piano. Sean also was presented with a scholarship and played in the Highlight Concert on Saturday. Congrats to this young man.
