Madill Secondary School in Wingham is one of 48 recipients of an Excellence In Education (EIE) award handed out by the Avon Maitland District School Board. She was one of two teachers at the Wingham high school to receive the award. Jan Duffield was also a recipient. Two students from the school were also recipients. They were Scott Coulthard and Jaime Greenaway. There were four recipients at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. They were teachers Janice Rose and Barry Brohman, support staff Bob Gibbings and student Elysia Townsend. There were also four recipients at Goderich District Collegiate Institute and at Listowel District Secondary School. The recipients at GDCI were teacher Hugh McGregor. community member Steven Lindstrom, support staff John MacDonald and student Jeff kaufman. At LDSS, the recipients were teachers Diane Homewood, John Kuepfer and Scott Mitchell and student Crystal Jedrzejewski. The seventh annual Excellence in Public Education awards were presented last night, May 4, in a ceremony held at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club. The awards are presented by the AMDSB in partnership with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation District 8 to honour those who have made outstanding contributions to public education in the Avon Maitland District. Student recipients of the EIE award have made the most of their opportunities for self-development in their particular secondary school. They have contributed towards secondary school program, brought honour to their school, or enriched the life of their school or the community in which they live. Teachers, professional services and educational support staff recipients are members of OSSTF District 8 who have encouraged excellence through their contribution to the school environment. They are also involved in various phases of extra-curricular, professional or community activities, which promote the cause of public education. Community recipients are individuals or groups involved in activities related to education. Their contribution and efforts help to enhance the secondary school program and the quality of the secondary school experience for the students.
