It was a great weekend at the
Brussels Legion Branch with a very
successful silent auction being held.
There were almost 160 items,
services or certificates up for grabs
with close to 100 bidders vying for
items. The usual last-minute frenzy
of bids at 3:55 p.m. resulted in at
least 50 people in the hall.
The Optimists-sponsored spelling
bee was held in the morning
downstairs in the lounge with three
children participating.
The Friday night supper of ham
and scalloped potatoes was well
attended. This week is lasagna.
Thursday night 15 darters came
out to play. The first-place finishers
were John Stadelmann and Sandra
Josling. In second were Julie
Harrison and Ron Schmidt. High
shots were by Ron and Sandra, each
shooting 140. High starts were by
John Harrison with 78 and Lisa
Glanville 75. The third skunk of the
year went to Catrina Josling and
Bush Whittard.
Tuesday night men’s darts had 10
taking aim at the boards. Darts are at
8 p.m.
Double dart players Ron Schmidt
and Andy Adams represented the
Branch at the provincial competition
in Newbury on the weekend. They
finished at 5 and 2, the best of
District C competitors.
Congratulations to them.
Comrade Rick McDonald
attended the sports meeting at
Hensail Legion on Wednesday
evening.
The fish fry crew was off to
Stratford on Saturday night in not
the nicest weather. They were at the
Stratford Legion to serve fish to 150
hungry diners. Hats off to cooks
John Harrison. Dale Sauve, Greg
Wilson and Pete Exel.
Visiting to the Branch was the 1st
Impression Community Exchange
group from Watford. This is a
program which has paired Watford
and Brussels on an exchange of
visits, impressions and views of
each other’s communities. This
program is sponsored by the
Ministry of Municipal and Housing
Rural Development Division.
There was a group of six very
friendly representatives who had
looked around the town of Brussels.
Among them was the president of
the Watford Legion. They stopped in
to relax, discuss their findings and
write down their thoughts.
During my visit with them they
commented on how friendly
everyone had been.
