HUBBELL TURF MANAGEMENT
April has arrived. The month of
wonders. Each day a surprise, as
sunshine teases its way into spring.
It’s also the month that keeps
reality in the front row as a little
touch of snow and winter is part of
the mix. Yes, April is a tease but a
very welcome time.
We’re into search mode as the
days of April countdown. Tax time
is looming and each individual filing
system is under serious scrutiny.
Search time is now as we try to find
all the papers that spell out your life
for the last year. April is such a
revealing month. The expenses
incurred, the money brought in and
the reality oi the chosen dispersal.
Oh my!
Robert Black pulled out the stops
as the Blyth Festival Singers proved
their combined talents on Sunday in
Clinton. As the conductor of the
choir his job is to get them to sing
their very best and he did just that.
The title of the performance was
Rhythm and Rhapsody and the
group hit all the right spots.
As a wonderful bonus the UWO
Percussion Ensemble with Dr. Jill
Ball as the director showed that
drums can play alone and that
percussion is a large instrument
group. The students in the group
showed marvellous talent and gave
the audience a new appreciation for
the rhythms in our lives.
The best part about getting old is
watching your friends get really old
before your eyes. Cranbrook was the
place to be on Sunday night as
Kathy Workman finally got around
to celebrating her March birthday. It
was well worth the wait as we
enjoyed the good company with fine
food, drink and lots of laughter.
Storytelling, truth and sometimes
not. plays a big part in the social,
time that we have together. Stories
of long ago and growing up years,
stories of our children and their
growing up and now stories of the
grandchildren and more importantly,
how much the children deserve each
one that is a blessing in their care.
Yes as the years pass the details
become clearer making for some

parade, an evening at Soundsations,
a visit from and a visit to another
chapter, members got down to the
serious part of the afternoon - tea
and other delicious things.
A few of the ladies had great
stories to tell, many of which were
from St. Patrick's Day. There was a
report from Ethel White who
attended a tea in Owen Sound and
then Queen Fedora, the mascot, told
members of her trip to Winnipeg.
The bean spitting contest was won
by Pat Langlois. There was some
dissension in the ranks because the
projectiles were jelly beans and
some felt they were too sticky and
others were of the opinion that they
tasted too good to be wasted.
Needless to say, a grand time was
had by all.
