BPS raises
$2,761
By Aislinn Bremner and Ursina
Studhalter
Blyth Public School has raised a
grand total of $2,761 for the
Canadian Red Cross. This is more
than we aimed for. All the money we
raised goes to the Red Cross, for
food, water, etc. for the suffering
people in Asia.
There is now a Kids Who Care
website. On the website you will
find information on what happened
in Asia and on what tsunamis are.
There are also pictures. Check it out
at: www.kids-whocare.blinkz.com

Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Feb. 13 were Barb
Richmond and Fred Meier. Ushers
were Rob and Karen Mason and Pat
and Harvey Bernard. Guest
musician was Margaret Kai.
The choir anthem was This is the
Day. The children’s hymn, Come In,
Come In and Sit Down, was sung as
the children gathered at the front of
the church for their story time. Rev.
Eugen Bannerman gave the children
little candies with sayings on them.
The lectionary reading was
Genesis 2: 15-1. The gospel reading
was Matthew 4: 1-11 and the
responsive reading Psalm 32.
Rev. Bannerman’s message to the
adults was The Little Brown
Church. Rev. Bannerman told the
story of the congregationalists
settling in the U.S.A, in 1855. By
1860 a family gave them some land
in a valley and someone else gave
them some lumber to build their
church. Another donated brown
paint which was about the only
colour you could get after the Civil
War.
William Pitts wrote the song
Church in the Wildwood for this
church. In 1862 the family moved to
Bradford. Pitts attended the
Bradford Academy.
He later sold his song for $25
which paid for his Doctorate
Degree.
There are five to 10 weddings a
week in the Church in the Wildwood
and about 75,000 visitors come
every year.
