Follow a honeymoon planning guide and you’ll be all smiles
during your first vacation as husband and wife.
Many couples say the best part of
the wedding is .... the honeymoon!
Just like your wedding, it will take
some advanced effort to make your
romantic getaway just right. Follow
this plan and you’ll be guaranteed to
have a memorable first vacation as
husband and wife:
Six months to one year: If your
honeymoon is during a high travel
time, select your destination. Decide
on a location that you are both happy
with. Book airline and hotel
reservations. Make your initial
deposit.
Three to six months: Apply for a
passport or renew the one you have
if it's about to expire. Reserve a
rental car. Obtain vaccinations or
medical clearance if needed.
Consider travel insurance or travel
protection plans. Make sure you
have the proper travel documents.
Two to three months: Make final
travel payments. Write a list of items
to pack. Ensure you have enough
doses of your regular prescriptions.
Purchase travel items like film,
batteries, travel-size toiletries,
electrical adapters, and a hand-held
translator. Book excursions, show’
tickets, boat tours or side trips. Make
arrangements for pets and house
sitting.
One month before: Distribute
your travel itinerary to your family.
Make a list of valuables, including
your credit-card numbers. Make
sure you have your travel
documents. Get foreign currency or
traveller's checks. Reconfirm travel
reservations.
Two to three weeks before: Go
over your packing list, and get
anything else you need. Assemble
tickets, boarding passes and all
important documents. Have any
clothes altered, laundered or dry
cleaned. Begin setting out things to
pack.
One week before: Temporarily
suspend mail and newspaper
delivery. Make and pack a list of
addresses and stationery for thank-
you notes. Arrange transportation
from the wedding to the aiiport.
Two to three days before:
Reconfirm flight reservations. Clean
out the refrigerator. Empty the
garbage. Set light timers. Mow the
lawn. Buy flight items, such as
magazines, books, gum. etc. Pack
your luggage and carry-on. Set up
automatic reply on your e-mail and
change the message on your voice
mail.
Check the weather for your
destination.
Departure day: Make sure you
are carrying all of your travel
documents, and allow enough time
for airport check-in. Have fun!
