The Citizen Job shadowing FROM ETHEL Kalem Hammermueller, a Grade 8 student at Grey Central School, is interested in a career in human services and marketing. To learn more about his career choice and to get some hands-on experience he was job shadowing at the Ontario Finest Inns (OFI) office in Brussels last Wednesday as part of the Groundhog Job Shadow program. (Jim Brown photo) Grey Central students in Job Shadow Wednesday, Feb. 2 Grey Central Grade 8 students were involved in a Groundhog Job Shadow Day. Groundhog Job Shadow Day is dedicated to engaging students in the world of work in order to show them the connection between aca­ demics and careers. This initiative is funded by the Foundation for Enriching Education Perth Huron. There were several activities lead­ ing up to and following the dayi classroom activities included resume writing, sending a letter of introduction to the workplaces and a follow-up evaluation. Each student had the opportunity to tour a job site, “shadow” an employee and participate in some workplace activ­ ities. In turn the employees demon­ strated job skills and educational requirements of their careers. Students from Grey Central spent the day shadowing employees from Wescast, Wingham and District Hospitals and CKNX in Wingham, The Innkeepers of Ontario in Brussels, Newry Vet and in Listowel Robert Trench’s Funeral Home, Listowel Veterinary Service, Listowel Florist, Listowel Memorial Hospital and Gamsby and Mannerow. Cheap gas? No! Gas was not selling at 22.2 cents per litre last Wednesday at J.R.’s in Brussels. They were having trou­ ble adjusting the display board to the proper price despite a number of attempts. Mrs. Mary Kloosterman, manager of the Goderich YMCA and elder in the Goderich Presbyterian Church was guest speaker in Cranbrook Presbyterian Church on Sunday. She spoke on the great prophet, Elijah after reading about him from the first book of Kings in the Old Testament. Congratulations to Laura and Brett Fischer on the birth of their son, Tyson. He weighed seven pounds and one ounce when he was born in Listowel Memorial Hospital on Feb. 2. Proud grandparents are Bob and Lois Sinclair and Murray and Marlene Fischer. Spoiling privi­ leges go to great-grandparents Harold and Isabel Adams of Port Albert and Doris Fischer of Brussels. There were not as many people out to darts in Cranbrook last week as some members were on holidays to warmer countries. They did miss some good weather at home. The results were Gayle Speiran with 81 points for the high count for the ladies and Brad Speiran with 117 having the most points for the men.
