The Citizen Job shadowing
FROM ETHEL
Kalem Hammermueller, a Grade 8 student at Grey Central
School, is interested in a career in human services and
marketing. To learn more about his career choice and to get
some hands-on experience he was job shadowing at the
Ontario Finest Inns (OFI) office in Brussels last Wednesday
as part of the Groundhog Job Shadow program.

Grey Central students
in Job Shadow
Wednesday, Feb. 2 Grey Central
Grade 8 students were involved in a
Groundhog Job Shadow Day.
Groundhog Job Shadow Day is
dedicated to engaging students in
the world of work in order to show
them the connection between aca
demics and careers.
This initiative is funded by the
Foundation for Enriching Education
Perth Huron.
There were several activities lead
ing up to and following the dayi
classroom activities included
resume writing, sending a letter of
introduction to the workplaces and a
follow-up evaluation. Each student
had the opportunity to tour a job
site, “shadow” an employee and
participate in some workplace activ
ities. In turn the employees demon
strated job skills and educational
requirements of their careers.
Students from Grey Central spent
the day shadowing employees from
Wescast, Wingham and District
Hospitals and CKNX in Wingham,
The Innkeepers of Ontario in
Brussels, Newry Vet and in
Listowel Robert Trench’s Funeral
Home, Listowel Veterinary Service,
Listowel Florist, Listowel Memorial
Hospital and Gamsby and
Mannerow.
