The Citizen, 2006-12-21, Page 11The Novice Brussels Bulls played a home game against Milverton 4-Wheel Drives on Friday, Dec. 15. Milverton got off to a fast start with a break-away goal from Connor Wettlaufer assisted by Carter Gretz in the first 30 seconds of play. The Brussels squad then rose to the challenge to play one of their strongest games of the season. Caitlin Scarrow and Christopher Van Veen were both effective, harassing the Milverton ppponents at every turn and forcing them to give over the puck. Emma Strome made her debut in the Brussels net, frustrating the Milverton shooters time and time again. Kieran Jared drew a rare tripping penalty at 7:36 of the second, resulting in a powerplay goal for the Drives. With seconds left in the period, Logan Kellington took a velvet pass from Emily Mitchell, deked out the Milverton guard and drilled the puck past goalie David Nafziger. Dawson Peachey followed with several good scoring chances throughout the second while Wyatt Machan was robbed on a breakaway Slate in the third. Special mention goes to Milverton's Nicholas Poole and Carter Gretz, each with five points. PAGE 11 Midget Girls hosts round two against Wildcats This weekend the Maitland Midget AA girls were back home to host round two against Windsor's Wildcats. Maitland was back to the full line- up for the game and it showed. The girls hit the ice hard in the first, giving Windsor a real run for their money. Victoria Bertrand of Port Elgin was the first to find the net for Maitland, after Tammy Freiburger of Wingham put the puck between the Windsor defence and onto Bertrand's stick. Bertrand found herself on the attack again, this time dishing the puck to Kendall Whitfield of Blyth who made no mistake putting Maitland up 2-0. Minutes later Dru Austin of Goderich was Johnny on the spot in front of the net. With the Windsor netminder nowhere in sight, and the puck landing right on her stick, she absolutely buried a shot from the blue ice. In the second period Brittney Peters of Blyth decided to try her hand at offence, hopping into the play and turning on the jets for a pair of end-to-end rushes. Then, Freiburger and Bertrand teamed up again later in the period, unleashing a fierce round of shots on the opposing goaltender. Bertrand delivered the fatal blow to put Maitland up 4-0, with Freiburger picking up the assist. Windsor gave a valiant effort throughout the game but were unable to solve Maitland's Victoria Rumph of Drayton who recorded the shutout. Next on the schedule for the girls is an appearance at home on Dec. 23 versus Kitchener. Novices play 4-Wheel Drives ott Ho,e TOWNSHIP OF NORTH HURON 4a 411 r BLYTH WARD 4 41‘ & ,..,:x.
