Have a folky, folky Christmas
Gloria Wilbee went through some Christmas songs for the
people of Walton last Sunday at the Town Hall. Wilbee was
one of many acts in attendance, but the only one to

PAGE 22. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2006.
It was a wonderful time at the
Walton Hall for a Well-Wishing
Christmas variety show featuring
Walton's local talent. •
The afternoon started off with
emcee Neil McGavin introducing
the Mitchell family. Mom, Marie
played the piano with daughter
Sarah, then Emily played. Grandma
Phyllis, Jamie and Sean Mitchell
Duff's
• service
starts
with
a ban
Members and friends of Duff's
United Church were greeted by
Murray and Olene Dennis, and a
bang at Sunday's service.
The Christmas tree at the front of
the sanctuary fell over causing a
mess just before the service began. I
t was a little excitement for the
beginning of the first Advent service
of hope and the hanging of the
greens.
The Advent candle was lit by
Monique, Ryan and Adam Baan.
The children of the Sunday school
and leaders were • a big part of
conducting the service.
Gail Clarkson's meditation was
entitled Unpacking Guatemala —
Hope. She spoke of her time in
Guatemala during November and of
her return.
The offering was collected by
Robert Glanville and Ron
McCallum.
The Sunday school still has some
Rheo Thompson mint smoothies
available.
This Sunday, Dec. 10, is white gift
Sunday and the gifts and non-
perishable food items will be given
to the Huron County Christmas
Bureau.
The sanctuary looks very festive
thanks to the efforts of the Sunday
school parents who decorated last
week.
The community choral night is at
Brussels United Church on Dec. 10
at 7 p.m.
The supper committee met on
Wednesday evening to discuss the
turkey supper and any changes to the
prices for catering. The
recommendations will be taken to
the UCW meeting.
The UCW is looking for a
secretary to start Jan. 1. Contact
Karen Hoegy, Shelley McGavin or
Olene Dennis.
played some Christmas carols on the
violins.
Gloria Wilbee sang a trio of
Christmas . carols with guitar
accompaniment.
A humorous skit, T'was the Night
Before Christmas, was read by Patty
Banks and acted by Ryan, Adam and
Emma Baan, Chris and Judy Lee and
Jim Cook.
The full house then enjoyed the
piano playing of Meagan Campbell
and Shannon Jared who were joined
in song by Marci Campbell, Susan
and Ronan Jared.
Ryan Baan played %some
Christmas carols on the piano and
Graeme Craig sang a Christmas
carol.
Margaret Mclnroy read two
different Christmas readings that
were quite entertaining and Phyllis
Mitchell played a couple of waltzes
on the violin.
A very entertaining skit entitled
The Hat Story, featuring Neil
McGavin and Jack McLachlin
brought some side-splitting laughter
from the crowd.
A surprise addition to the
afternoon entertainment was young
Matthew Campbell singing
Spiderman.
Marie McGavin then led a short
Christmas sing-a-long prior to the
arrival of Santa Claus who handed
out candy canes to the children in
attendance. All in all it was a nice
afternoon with cookies, coffee and
cider provided by the Hall board
members and helpers Kathleen
Williamson and Marg Bennett.
The donations received are going
to more Hall upgrades.
Enjoying quite the weekend was
Kevin Wilbee. He was at the Liberal
leadership convention in Montreal as
co-youth chair for the Scott Brison
campaign. It was an exciting time
and learning experience for him.
A trio of Lees spent an exciting
weekend Friday and Saturday in
Toronto. They were at the
promoters' meeting of the Canadian
Motocross Racing Corn. Brett Lee
was the chairman. Discussions were
held on the past and coming year's
events.
Saturday evening they attended
the supercross 'held at the Rogers
Centre where over 25,000 fans
watched the action.
Celebrating Christmas was the
McGavin business. Brian and
Shelley hosted the staff at their home
prior to travelling to the Blyth Inn
for dinner and to enjoy the comedy
entertainment of Yuk, Yuks. They
had a great time and enjoyed the
show and evening of Christmas
cheer.
Returning from a week-long trip to
Florida were Clint and Judy
Emmrich. They enjoyed nice
weather and a relaxing week.
We send condolences to the family
of Jim Mann who passed away
suddenly.
Congratulations to Malinda
Johnston who celebrated her 90th
'birthday in the Terrace Room at
Wingham and District Hospital.
Former Waltoner Lin Steffler
celebrated two milestones this past
week. She celebrated her 60th
birthday and her retirement from the
Huron Perth Catholic School Board.
A party was held at Seaforth Legion
with many well wishers in
attendance.
Congratulations to Matt Shortreed
and Julie Moffat on their
engagement.
It's deer hunting season again this
week, so watch out for deer on the
road. It's a little colder weather this
week for the hunters, but there's a lot
less corn for the deer to hide in.
Jeanne Kirkby has her son
and hunter friends staying at her
home.
