PAGE 9 Johnston on fire in net for Brussels 519-887-6851 The Blyth Rollers played a home game at the Blyth arena against the Mildmay Redwings, on Saturday, Dec. 2. This was the first chance these teams had to meet for the current broomball season. Both teams were short a few players due to busy December commitments; but those who were there, were keen to hit the ice and for the 5 p.m. face- off. Blyth's goalkeeper Murray Dale did a good job covering the net. Blyth was first to get on the scoreboard. Tyler Guetter picked up the ball and made a nice shot on Mildmay's goal, but the keeper stopped the ball. Winger Morgan Bos was there to The past two weeks have not been good ones for Blyth's Local League Atoms, coming up short to Milverton and Mitchell. Blyth lost by the narrow margin of 1-0 on Nov. 18 to Milverton and lost another close one to Mitchell by a score of 3-2. Blyth was the visiting team in both games. In Milverton, the home team's only goal came early in the first period, a deficit that Blyth would never overcome. Blyth was kept off the scoresheet completely all game, with the exception of a lone penalty for tripping in the first. On Nov. 24, Blyth travelled to Mitchell only to lose 3-2 at the hands of two unanswered goals in the third period. Blyth was keen to widen their lead and did so after defensive player, Hunter Broda, shot the ball deep into Mildmay's end. Guetter picked up the ball and scored for the Rollers. With just over five minutes left in the first period, Mildmay scored their first goal of the game. In the second period, defensive player Matt Terpstra made a beautiful shot deep into Mildmay's end. The ball rolled among players from both teams, right into the net, to give Blyth a two-point lead. A Mildmay forward had a breakaway, so Blyth's keeper came out to challenge the ball. Unfortunately for Blyth, Mildmay was successful in then again in the second, with Dalton Richmond scoring with helpers from Dylan Bromley and Connor Rodger. With two penalties in the third coming to Kyle Pollard and Lane for interference, Mitchell capitalized with the equalizer and then the go- ahead goal, within two minutes of one-another. BUY? SELL? Morgan Bos was able to get the ball away from the Redwings and shot it into the net. With just two minutes left in the game, Mildmay pulled their goalie. The Rollers didn't have all the players covered and Mildmay scored another goal to tighten the score. It was an exciting two minutes and the fans were on the edge of their seats. At the final buzzer it was 4 - 3, and another win for the Blyth Rollers. The Rollers have had a very successful season of broomball, so far. Coaches said, all players are really working hard at passing the ball, digging the ball away from their opponents and working together to get the ball into their opponents' end and take some shots on net. Brussels' Lexi Smith scored assisted by Logan Clark. Ben Hruska took a mighty shot and scored in the second period with Scott Dolmage assisting. BCH scored one but Brussels finished the game with Tim Waechter scoring. Luke McCutcheon assisted. The score was 3-1 for Brussels. Brussels next travelled to Goderich. Johnston saved the game with his great saves. Contributing to Brussels scoring were Josh Bridge and Smith. In the last two minutes Goderich scored two fast ones to finish with a 4-2 victory.
