The Blyth Rollers played a home
game at the Blyth arena against the
Mildmay Redwings, on Saturday,
Dec. 2.
This was the first chance these
teams had to meet for the current
broomball season. Both teams
were short a few players due to
busy December commitments; but
those who were there, were keen to
hit the ice and for the 5 p.m. face-
off.
Blyth's goalkeeper Murray Dale
did a good job covering the net.
Blyth was first to get on the
scoreboard. Tyler Guetter picked up
the ball and made a nice shot on
Mildmay's goal, but the keeper
stopped the ball.
Winger Morgan Bos was there to
The past two weeks have not been
good ones for Blyth's Local League
Atoms, coming up short to Milverton
and Mitchell.
Blyth lost by the narrow margin of
1-0 on Nov. 18 to Milverton and lost
another close one to Mitchell by a
score of 3-2. Blyth was the visiting
team in both games.
In Milverton, the home team's
only goal came early in the first
period, a deficit that Blyth would
never overcome.
Blyth was kept off the scoresheet
completely all game, with the
exception of a lone penalty for
tripping in the first.
On Nov. 24, Blyth travelled to
Mitchell only to lose 3-2 at the hands
of two unanswered goals in the third
period.
Blyth scored in the first period
with Curtis Raynar.d netting the goal
with an assist by Jimmy Lane and

pick up the rebound and scored for
the Rollers. Blyth was keen to widen
their lead and did so after defensive
player, Hunter Broda, shot the ball
deep into Mildmay's end. Guetter
picked up the ball and scored for the
Rollers.
With just over five minutes left in
the first period, Mildmay scored
their first goal of the game.
In the second period, defensive
player Matt Terpstra made a
beautiful shot deep into Mildmay's
end. The ball rolled among players
from both teams, right into the net,
to give Blyth a two-point lead. A
Mildmay forward had a breakaway,
so Blyth's keeper came out to
challenge the ball. Unfortunately for
Blyth, Mildmay was successful in
then again in the second, with Dalton
Richmond scoring with helpers
from Dylan Bromley and Connor
Rodger.
With two penalties in the third
coming to Kyle Pollard and Lane for
interference, Mitchell capitalized
with the equalizer and then the go-
ahead goal, within two minutes of
one-another.

getting the ball around the keeper
and scored a goal.
Morgan Bos was able to get the
ball away from the Redwings and
shot it into the net.
With just two minutes left in the
game, Mildmay pulled their goalie.
The Rollers didn't have all the
players covered and Mildmay scored
another goal to tighten the score. It
was an exciting two minutes and the
fans were on the edge of their seats.
At the final buzzer it was 4 - 3, and
another win for the Blyth Rollers.
The Rollers have had a very
successful season of broomball, so
far. Coaches said, all players are
really working hard at passing the
ball, digging the ball away from
their opponents and working
together to get the ball into their
opponents' end and take some shots
on net.
