Contacted Tuesday morning regarding what the actual costs would be, clerk-administrator Kriss Snell said that the 2004 by-election cost taxpayers $2,500, plus staff hours. In making their decision, councillors wondered if they should go into closed session for discussion. Snell said that if the debate was to include the merits of an individual then it would be appropriate to do so in a closed meeting.
