PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2006.
We're officially in the Advent
season — the time of waiting. In the
Christian tradition the weeks before
the birth of the baby Jesus are a time
of preparation. So as we celebrate
the season we remember the stories
of old and with our own stories,
songs, habits and traditions we
prepare to mark the Advent season
Brussels Public School Grade 1
teacher Shannon McGavin, is
becoming the numeracy literacy
resource teacher at the board office.
The new Grade 1 teacher will be
Anna Vassilliou.
The next few weeks at BPS will be
busy with report cards coming
home, PA Day, interviews, music
night for the Grades 5-8, the
Christmas concern for K - Grade 4
and skating.
First-term report cards were sent
home on Monday, Dec. 4. Interviews
are scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7
after school and evening and Friday,
Dec. 8.

for 2006.
A new one for the United Church
was a bus trip to hear the music of
the Walters Family. A music loving
gang boarded the bus last Friday
afternoon to get to the evening show
at the • Sanderson Centre in
Brantford. Christmas tunes filled the
beautiful hall augmented by a little
dance and instrumental music to
make for a very fine time.
Reports indicate this was a very
good show and a fun way to travel,
especially as the wind took on
momentum after the show. Betty
Campbell thinks it was a pretty neat
way to spend a birthday.
Some of these same folks were off
to Wingham's Heritage Theatre on
Saturday to hear the Beckett Family
toy and clothing drive for the Huron
County Christmas Bureau. They
were able to donate 85 items from
Brussels Public School to this
wonderful organization.
Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. will be
the Christmas concert.
Thc: dress rehearsal is Wednesday,
Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. and the show date
in case of inclement weather is
Monday, Dec. 18.
On Tuesday, Dec. 19, the students
and their take on Christmas. Good
music with lots of instruments, some
dancing and singing had the
Christmas spirit lifting as the toes
were tapping.
Good news. Lyle Brothers is
home. Daddy B has Alice's full
attention as she gets their world
organized for his rest and recovery.
Keep smiling Lyle. This too shall
pass.
And even better news. Jill Graber
has arrived. Showing her
independent nature, she held off
arrival times to make sure she had
her very own day to celebrate in
years to come. I think I love her
already. So Jill arrived Dec. 2, even
adjusting the staffing at Listowel
hospital to accommodate her birth.
have the opportunity to go skating at
the BMG Community Centre. The
Huron East Recreation Department
has donated free skating time. There
will be short Christmas carol
assemblies in the gym every
morning from Dec. 18 - Dec. 22
beginning at 9:15 a.m. Visitors are
wetcome.
So the advent of this birth is over and
the relief is evident on a few.
Just hours after the new sister
arrived Jordan and Robyn were
convincing Chris and Lara that they
would be more than capable of being
the chief caregivers for Jill. So we
will have our own special baby at
Christmas. Now the fun begins.
As we continue into the weeks of
Advent we look for the peace, joy,
hope and love in the world around
us. For me and my house, we've had
a very good start of all of those.
Be sure to check the ads and
bulletins so you can arrange your life
to enjoy the many, many offerings of
this festive season. The community
choirs are next Sunday at the United
Church for a starter.
So enjoy the season.
Bye now, Betty G.W. FROM BRUSSELS
