The Citizen
"I think we've done a good job,"
said returning Huron East mayor Joe
Seili to his council; and then he
reassured his departing councillors
that there will always be a seat for
them, in the back of the room.
"Don't say that you won't miss
us," Scili said. "Don't forget about
us, there's always chairs at the
back."
.The goodbyes and well-wishings
were at the forefront of the Huron
East council meeting on- Nov. 21,
with not much on the table to
discuss, but with several councillors
departing.
It was an emotional night with
tears being shed all around the table.
Farewell words were said by Fergus
Kelly and Bill DeJong.
"We didn't always agree, but in
the end, we were all friends and I
think that shows a great team," said
DeJong, who went on to thank the
people of Tuckersmith as well for
putting their trust in him.
Sharon McClure stated first and
foremost that she was outnumbered
by men, but that she never felt that
way.
Mayoral candidate Lou Maloney
was not on hand for the last meeting
of the current Huron East council,
but Seili was sure to wish him the
best for the future.
Things ended on a brighter note
with the goodbye to soon-to-be
Morris-Tumberry councillor Mark
• Beaven. He was presented with three
packages from his fellow
councillors. One contained a
plagued picture of him and his dog
fallen asleep, the second a nippy cup
to correct his supposed tendency of
spilling coffee and the third was his
jacket which was left behind at an
all-candidates meeting some time
ago.
Beaven spoke well of his current
colleagues and said goodbye.
Seili presented all of the retiring
councillors with a small retirement
package, containing a gift certificate
for their years of service, their name
plate and a portfolio.
Seili also extended portfolios to all
councillors in a show of gratitude for
their service in the current term and
said he looked forward to working
together with them for another.
