AAA Minor Atom Lakers fall short against 99ers
The AAA Minor Atom Huron
Perth Lakers came up just short of a
win this past Saturday, falling with
a score of 5-3 to the Brantford
99ers.
The Lakers only dressed 11, being
short two players, losing one to
illness and one to a game
misconduct for boarding.
Scoring for the Lakers were Eric
MacPhee, Evan Chaffe and Kenny
Huether.
Assists went to Drew McKee,
Lucas Spence, Cullen Mercer and
Brandon Willis.
The loss must have awakened the
Lakers, who went on to win with a
score of 9-2 the next day against the
Hamilton Huskies.
The Lakers received a boost in the
way of Hodges coming back and
hitting the ice after his game
misconduct sat him down.
The game was rough from the
start, but got especially nasty toward
the end of the game, with many
Huskies being handed penalties
with even some punches being
thrown.
Scorers for the Lakers were Wyatt
Ducharme and Mercer with two
goals each and Huether, Keirnyn
Campbell, Mykal Hodges, Chaffe
and Nathan . Smith all with one a
piece.
The Lakers look ahead to the
Guelph Power Play Tournament this
weekend. Friday will see the Lakers
take on the Ajax/Pickering Raiders
followed by a game with the Niagara
Falls Thunder. On Saturday they will
play the York/Simcoe Express.
If the Lakers play well in those
games, they will be on the ice on
Sunday, on their way to the finals.

The Blyth Midget Girls Black Ice
broomball team had a rematch
against Seaforth Saturday. The
Seaforth girls came ready to play
and caught the Black Ice off guard.
Seaforth pressed hard in the first and
it paid off with a goal late in the
period.
Seaforth scored again early in the
second period as Black Ice goalie
Chantal Warwick let in a soft shot
from the point. But this seemed to
bring the Black Ice to life and they
came back hard. Niki Beyersbergen
battled for the ball and got it to Karly
Howard who got a clean shot into the
Seaforth net. The Black Ice kept the
pressure up for the rest of the game
but missed a couple of opportunities
and let Seaforth take the win.
