THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2006. PAGE 21 .
Guests attend November Majestic meeting
Ten members and two guests
attended the Majestic Women's
Institute meeting on Nov. 8 in the
Brussels Library.
Following the opening of the
meeting, correspondence was read
with information on the Slice of
Huron being held on April 10-12 of
the Historical Society meeting on
Nov. 16 and the Not Just A Quilt
Show in Barrie on June 21-23.
A motion was made to send a
cheque to Slice of Huron to help
with the busing costs.
President Ruth Bauer confirmed
with members that the Dec. 13
meeting is at the Walton Inn.
The members are also asked to
help out with the Homecoming for
Brussels July 27-29.
Lucy Hesse mentioned that
knitting needles and crochet hooks
would be greatly appreciated to be
sent to Nunavut. If anyone wants to
donate them she would make sure
they would be sent.
Edna McLellan highlighted
information from the area
convention in Si. Agatha on CiCr. 19.
There was a request that branches
hold a fundraiser to support Go-Go
Grannies in countries where AIDS
has left young children in the care of
grandmothers. Money raised to be in
by March 7.
In 2007, the branches are to host
different events celebrating 110
years of Women's Institute.
Two branches have had problems
with lost or misplaced Tweedsmuir
books. It was noted that Branches
should check the library to confirm
their Institute books are still there.
The 2007 Area convention will be
held in Palmerston on Oct. 18.
Roll call was answered with the
names of public schools attended.
Convenor, Mrs. Hesse, gave the
definition of education and school.
She then divided the members into
three groups to discuss how
discipline, and teaching had changed
from the members' school days to
the present. Bullying is not a new
problem and was also present in the
school years ago.,
Mrs. Hesse read about the brown
reader which ranged in price from 4
cents to 12 cents as the students
progressed in reading. The school
boards were responsible to supply
books, writing supplies instead of
the parents.
Leona Armstrong read the names
for the shut-in boxes with some
names being taken off and new ones
added. Members were reminded to
bring donations for the shut-in boxes
and lots of cookies for the trays.
An auction was conducted by
Lucy Hesse to raise money for the
Children's Hospital.
Smiles was read by Kathy Bridge
while Yvonne Knight and Leona
Armstrong served lunch./
