Agriculture Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers sell steady at sale Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Nov. 10 were 2,616 head of cattle, 474 lambs and goats. On Tuesday the fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. The choice steers and heifers sold $89 to $92 with sales to $94. Second cut sold $85 to $89 with the cows selling steady. On Thursday veal sold on a very strong demand at prices $5 higher. Lambs sold on a strong market. Sheep and goats sold on a steady trade. On Friday calves sold $5 lower and yearlings sold on a steady trade. There were 435 steers on offer. Jesse M. Damen Farms of Lucan, consigned There were some local success stories at this year's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. The Bishop family from the Brussels area, the Gubelmans from near Walton and the Todds of West Wawanosh came home with plenty of hardware from this year's live- stock shows. Kayla, Kabrina and Keshi a Bishop, daughters of Jacquie and Kevin won their class of pen of 3 lambs, then went on to be awarded Grand Champion pen of 3 lambs. They received the James C. Bell Memorial Trophy. Kabrian was also the Reserve Grand Champion with her milk lamb. The lambs were sold after the show to Brussels Agri Services. The Bishops' Shayrina Sheep, Farm took third for wether or ewe lamb 75-90 lbs, and fifth and sixth for the wether or ewe lamb 90-105 twelve heifers averaging 1,378 lbs. selling for an average of $87.58 with one black heifer weighing 1,300 lbs. selling to Ryding Regency for $90. Arthur and George Hinz of Monkton, consigned two rwf heifers averaging 1,355 lbs. selling to Ryding Regency for $89.50. There were 252 cows on offer. Beef cows sold $35 to $45 with sales to $50; DI and D2, $38 to $43; D3, $31 to $38; D4, $20 to $30. Norbert Fortney of Mildmay, consigned one limousin cow weighing 2,115 lbs. selling for $50. Wanda Snobelen of Ripley, consigned five cows averag- ing 1,645 lbs. selling for an average of $40.53 with one charolais cow weighing 1,855 lbs. selling for $49.50. In the dairy show, Brown Swiss, the total performance award went to Gubelman Conan Danielle, owned by Ernst and Stefan Gubelman. The award is given for the female with the highest point total calculated from a formula combining show result, type classification, lifetime production, best milk record and LPI indes. Gubelmans also won the Edenridge Farms Trophy for the cow with the highest BCA for milk.
