Club hears story of remembrance The minutes of the previous a meeting and the financial report were given. For a cause Nineteen people turned out for a potluck supper and to raise funds for the Canadian Landmine Foundation at a Night of a Thousand Dinners event hosted by Mary Thomas of Brussels. Nixon hosts UCW group The meeting of the Belgrave Community Club opened by singing 0 Canada and observing a minute's The Evening Group of Knox United Church Women met at the home of Sheila Nixon on Tuesday, Nov. 7 with 11 members present. Barbara Anderson thanked Mrs. Nixon for hosting the meeting and welcomed all on a rainy night. Mrs. Anderson read a prayer for Peach. Irene Lamont opened the worship with a Remembrance Day poem, and Call to Worship. Lillian Campbell gave a prayer, and read the scriptures, Psalms 85 and from Isaiah. Mrs. Lamont read the meditation on Remembrance. She closed with prayer, and the offering was received. Muriel Coultes read the minutes and gave the treasurer's report. Mabel Wheeler reported that seven cards had been sent. Announcements were given for the Steward's beef supper on Wednesday, Nov. 22 with servings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.; the general meeting on Thursday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. with Nancy Walker of CCAC as guest speaker. The church will be hosting a nativity scene display on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be available. The UCW will be making beef and turkey pies on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 28-29. Price is $2.50 per pie. Orders will be taken by Barbara Anderson, Mrs. Anderson's group was in charge of the program. She opened by reading an article from the K-W Record on the example of forgiveness set by the Amish community in the U.S. after the killing of the five little girls. She also read an article on five important lessons people should learn. Muriel Coultes then showed two videos concerning the adoption of little David, by Madonna. Mrs. Coultes is a personal friend of Jane Glaves from Brantford who started the Home of Hope orphanage in Malawi, six years ago. Jane worked with the government through the process of the adoption. The first video was the interview Jane had given to CTV a week or so after the announcement of the adoption. She told how she had received the baby at the orphanage when it was two weeks old, and named him after one of her silence. Muriel Coultes read Remembrance Day story. supporters. The second video was the interview with Madonna by Meridith Vierra on Dateline. She spoke of her hopes for the child as well as her beliefs. A good discussion of these events followed. The club received an invitation to attend the Remembrance Day program at East Wawanosh Public School on Friday, Nov. 10 'With refreshments to follow. The Christmas dinner will be held on Friday, Dec. 1 with members asked to bring an item for the Food Bank. Louise Bosman introduced the guest speaker, Elizabeth McKague, who spoke of her experience as member of the Women's branch of the Air Force during the Second World War. After the training she was posted to London, England where she was given a job as secretary. During that time strong friendships were formed among the women in uniform and she paid tribute to those with whom she had served. The meeting closed by singing God Save The Queen and a social time was enjoyed by everyone. Christmas meeting at the home of Muriel Coultes. Everyone is invited to this special meeting. Group 1 has worship, Group 2 has lunch and Group 3, program. The Benediction and grace was sung. Mrs. Nixon assisted by Jane Grasby, served lunch. A social time followed.
