PAGE 9. Saugeen Maitland Girls have win, lose weekend This- weekend the Saugeen Maitland Midget AAs travelled to Windsor to take on the Wildcats, then hit the ice at hoMe against the Sarnia Lady Sting. On Saturday the girls travelled south to -face a talented Windsor team. Feeling a little bit drained from the long car ride and having some skate issues following an encounter with tile flooring the girls found themselves trailing 1-0 going into the second. Part way through the period, Tammy Freiburger of Wingham managed to find the back -of the net despite being sat upon by a Windsor defender, gained full marks for her extra effort and put Maitland on the scoreboard. After that the girls didn't look back with Lauren Olynyk of Owen Sound shovelling one past the Windsor net minder for a 2-1 lead. Then Kendall Whitfield of Blyth and Dru Austin of Goderich both managed to hit the empty net for a 4- I finish. Sunday saw the girls suiting up in Lucknow to try their luck against a strong Sarnia squad. The game was fast paced, with good scoring opportunities at both ends. It was scoreless after two, and the girls knew that the next goal would have a huge impact on the outcome of the game. Unfortunately, Sarnia managed to hit the mark first, putting one in over the shoulder of Maitland goaltender Syd Brown of Kincardine. Despite their best efforts, the girls were unable to-recover and Sarnia held on for the 1-0 victory. Next weekend the team is scheduled to battle it out for gold at the . Barrie Sharkfest tournament Nov. 17-19. More information regarding the girls' league standings can be found on the North Metro web site, www.nmghl.org Blyth PeeWee Rollers take on Seaforth squad The Seaforth co-ed Pee Wee broomball team travelled to Blyth on Saturday, Nov. 11 to 'play the Blyth Rollers. This was the second match of the season for these teams. With just over six minutes left in the first period a Seaforth player took a windup shot and got the ball past Blyth's goalie, scoring the only goal of the period. The Rollers played a fantastic second half and outshot their opponents, but couldn't seem to get the ball past Seaforth's very keen goalkeeper. The last shift was a real nailbiter. Blyth took shot after shot, but couldn't get the ball into the net. Blyth players learned that you should never give up -and that every second in the game counts. With under a second left in the game winger Tyler Guetter scored. He was assisted by Marlayna Kolkman and Hunter Broda. Blyth's defensive players Jasmine Ducharme, Shelby Haakers, Jordon deBoer, Tyler O'Rourke, Jordon Reinink and Matt Terpstra did an excellent job at clearing the ball out of the Rollers' defensive end and stopping their opponents from taking shots on Blyth's Blyth's goalkeeper Murray Dale did a great job covering the net for his team. Coaches Dutchie Kolkman and Cheryl Souch were very pleased with how well all of the Rollers are playing their positions.
