THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2006. PAGE 17.
What a difference a few good days
make to the landscape. Those
remaining soybeans that were out
were soon combined on Thursday,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The
elevator in Walton was busy taking
both corn and soybeans, and the pile
of corn in the yard really impressed
my younger passengers on the bus.
The farmers have many choices of
jobs to do right now - combine,
plow, spread manure and whether to
still plant wheat. This will definitely
be known as a late fall.
Hopefully everyone's defensive
driving skills are brushed up for this
week, as it's deer season. Watch for
more than one, don't go walking in
the bush and keep larger dogs in this
Friends and members of Duff's
United Church were greeted by
Teresa, Scott and Craig Baan on
Remembrance Stinday.
For the, children's time Gail
Clarkson asked about the meaning
of the poppy and what a wreath
means. The circle of the wreath is
like God's love and goes on with no
start or finish.
The scripture reading was by
Gloria Wilbee who also sang.
Gail's reflection, Remembering
Lives, Remembering Love, was of
stories of her own family members
who had served during the war.
The offering was collected by
Lavern Godkin and Teresa Baan.
Helen Craig gave a report on the
turkey supper. There were 736
people fed with 438 eating in and
298 takeouts. She thanked everyone
who helped and congratulated all on
a job well done.
week.
The biggest happening of Walton
this past week, would have been the
turkey supper put on by Duff's
United Church.
Monday was packing and moving
day for many of the items taken to
the BMG Community Centre.
Tuesday was prep day at the
church where nearly 20 women
spent quite a while getting things
ready.
Wednesday, 736 hungry diners
converged at the arena, the members
of Duff's United Church pulled
together with over 50 feeding all
who attended.
The Walton Inn received an award
this past week. Ontario's Healthy
Restaurant program presented
Graeme and Helen Craig of the
Walton Inn the Eat Smart Award of
Ekcellence. The award is presented
for restaurants providing a variety of
healthier food choices, safe food
handling and having a 100 per cent
smoke-free environment.
Kathleen Williamson was the
guest for yet another celebration in
honour of her 80th birthday. The

UCW members were reminded
about the Christmas dinner meeting
to be held Dec. 6 and to let Judy
Lee, Dianne McCallum or Patty
Banks know soon- if planning to
attend.
The cost is $13.
The Walton Sunday school
children heard the story of Rahab,
who was told to put a scarlet rope
out of her window so that she and
her family would be saved.
All of the children joined together
to create a beautiful collage, which
will be displayed in the Sunday
school room.

Community Complex, Wingham

with Kathleen to enjoy her special
milestone. Attending were Helen
Williamson, Ina McGrath, Evelyn
Carter and Florence Nesbitt.
Home for a visit with Karen and
Barry Hoegy were daughter Sherry
Delay and her dog Dawson. They
drove in from South Carolina for a
week's visit with mom and dad,
brothers and family, as well as old
friends in London.
Marion and Lavern Godkin have
returned home from a trip to Florida.
They were there to visit with Nancy
and Richard Schmeltzer, Jacob and
the newest addition, Brooke. Away
for two weeks they returned just in
time to help at the church turkey
supper.
' It was a beautiful day on Saturday
for the wedding of Paul Linton and
Amanda Ryan in Seaforth.
Paul is the son of Dave and Brenda
Linton of Walton and Amanda the
daughter of Gerry and Karen Ryan
of the Seaforth area. Dinner and a
reception were held at the Seaforth
Community Centre. This was
beautifully decorated in white, wine
and black.
In lieu of tinkling the glasses for
the newlyweds to kiss the guests
either had to sing a song with "love"
or demonstrate creative kissing
method, which the newlyweds
would copy. Names drawn randomly
resulted in our names being drawn.
Rick and I opted to sing. Love and
Marriage and it was suggested we
not.
There were many great speeches
including one from the father of the
groom, Dave Linton.
It was a lovely.. evening.
Congratulations to Paul and Amanda
who will be residing in Mitchell. FROM WALTON
