Sports MOTORS L Brussels Atoms play Blyth The Brussels Atom Reps started their season at home against Blyth. Brussels got things started, but Blyth answered With three quick ones. The hosts didn't give up, however, and Brook McLean scored with Jordyn Sholdice assisting. Blyth scored a few more goals, then the game got a little rougher and penalties were called for both sides: Mitchell Kellington got Brussels' next goal, with brothers Brody and Hayden TenPas getting the assists. The next goals were Blyth's, before McLean went in short- handed to score for Brussels. Lexi Smith assisted. Then it was a turnaround and Smith bulged the twine after McLean set up the play. The defensive lines of Colton Hastings, Anthony Vader, Reece McArter, Tanner Cardiff and Kai Heimstra were kept busy. But it was goalie Matt McNichol who really had to hustle in this contest. The next match was against Wingham away. Brussels got on the board in the first with Smith setting up the goal for B. TenPas. Kellington, assisted by B. TenPas scored another to finish things before the buzzer. Wingham closed the gap, but McLean, assisted by Sholdice increased the Brussels lead with one minute remaining. While playing short-handed Brussels managed another with only a second on the clock. H. TenPas lit the light on this one, with an assist from Smith. The final score was 4-2. Saugeen Maitland Midgets tie, lose in weekend action Brussels Tyke, Wyatt Machan, moves in on a Seaforth competitor in Saturday morning's game at home. The two teams skated to a 1-1 tie. (Vicky Bremner photo) Brussels Tykes tie Seaforth 1-1 On Saturday the Seaforth Tykes and the Brussels Tykes faced off in hockey action. Both sides played a very tough, fast-paced game. Countless saves were made on both teams as goalies did their very best to stop the puck from going into the net. There was no score until late in the second period when Seaforth Lucknow Midgets visited Wingham on Nov. 2 and were handed a 3-2 setback at the hands of Wingham's Midget Rep team, This game wasn't as close as the score indicated as Wingham held a definite edge in play, but had trouble hitting the net. Wingham scored one in each period with Wade Stephenson scored, on a rebound, against Brussels goalie Derrick Waechter. No to be discouraged, Brussels continued its ultimate play with Konrad McArter scoring his first goal of the season, assisted by Wyatt Machan and Cody Harding. This left the score at a 1-1 tie. These two teams play again at the Brussels arena Saturday at 11 a.m. getting two and Blake Scott netting the other. Assists went to Tyler Stewart with two and Greg Tiffin and Stephenson with one each. The Midgets have a busy week as they host Minto on Thursday at 9:30 p.m., then travel to Seaforth for a Friday night game, then head to Ripley for a one-day tournament on Saturday, Nov. 11. This weekend the . Saugeen Maitland Midget AAs faced off against two strong teams from Chatham and Kitchener. On Saturday the girls played Chatham ' at home. The game was fast paced with good scoring chances at both ends. Maitland's goaltender Victoria Rumph of Drayton stood on her head to keep Chatham off the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Chatham was able to solve Rumph by Three straight victories have moved the Huron Perth Minor Atom Lakers up in the standings. On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the team played the first-place Kitchener Rangers and defeated them 3-2. Scoring for the Lakers • were Kiernyn Campball with two and Evan Chaffe. Assists went to Cullen Mercer, Mykal Hodges and Nathan On Nov. 4 the Blyth Novice Dogs travelled' to Zurich. All played a good time. Scoring didn't start until the second period. The first goal for Blyth went to Drew Bromley with Hunter Dale earning the assist. Zurich came back to tie it up, but Blyth pulled ahead once again with Amy Boyce scoring, assisted by Owen Weber. In the last 12 seconds of the game the puck, sent in the air, rolled into the Blyth net. The third period had Zurich jamming the puck into the net partway through the third. Although the girls fought hard they were unable to recover and recorded the 1-0 loss. There was little time to dwell on this however as it was off to Kitchener on Sunday. Determined to come away with some points this 'weekend, they hit the ice flying. Again it was a very close game with both teams battling it out. Kendall Whitfield of Blyth beat Smith. On Saturday the Lakers played the Hamilton Reps to the same result. .Scoring were Wyatt Ducharme, Kenny Huether and Chaffe. Assists went to Dylan Nafziger, Eric McPhee and Mercer. It was another one-point victory on Sunday when the team took on the Lambton Jr. 'Stings. The final scoring three. Blyth's Justin Rodger slipped one past the Zurich goalie with no assists. the Kitchener goaltender clean twice, but could not beat the post on 'either occasion. The girls gave a solid effort but were unable to execute, resulting in a 0-0 tie. Currently the Midget AAs are second in their pool and eagerly awaiting their next game, Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in Windsor. The girls will then be returning home on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. start in Lucknow against Sarnia. score this time was 4-3. Scoring for the Lakers were Huether, Campbell, Mercer and Chaffe. Assists went to Ducharme, Lucas Spence, Smith and Mercer. On Saturday the Lakers will be heading to London to take on the Jr. Knights,. then will host the Waterloo Wolves in Brussels at 1 p.m.. on Sunday. Zurich then scored again, bringing the score to 6-3.
