The team gained a berth in the
tournament and it was held last
week in Kitchener. The Phoenix
Outlaws were ranked 28th in the 35
team ranking and were in the "F"
pool play.
In the round-robin series, the
Outlaws defeated the four other
teams for a perfect four and zero
standing to advance to the playoff
round. The teams they defeated were
the Elora Brewers, Marshall
Lightning from Michigan, Stittsville
56ers, and the Sydney Cardinals
from Nova Scotia.
The first game of the playoffs was
against the Bakersfield,
Lumberkings from California,
ranked ninth in the tournament. It

Their daughter, Margie, had
prepared a slide presentation with
many pictures of Bob and Ruth
throughout their younger years, their
marriage, their children,
grandchildren and various trips they
have taken.
Just before lunch break Robert
called his parents to the front. He
then announced_ that a talented
young lady and a family friend,
Brittany Haines, would sing What a
Wonderful World.
After Robert thanked Brittany for
sharing their talent, Ruth then said a
few words illustrating that a
marriage is like a garden — ever
changing. There wasn't e-mail 40
years ago so they communicated by -
letter. Ruth was in Toronto and Bob
was in this area. A stamp cost five
Phoenix Outlaws winning 2-1 in
extra innings.
Scott McDonald went in as a
pinch runner and Scott Leonhardt
batted in the winning run in that
game.
They advanced to the second
playoff game against the Perkasie
Rise from Pennsylvania, who were
ranked sixth in the tournament. It
was a really great game with the
Outlaws being ahead 1-0 going into
the sixth inning.
The "Rise" took advantage of the
tiring pitcher and hit two homeruns
to go ahead 3-1.
The Outlaws failed to earn the
runs back in the seventh. They were
defeated and ended a great week at
the ISC II World Tournament.
Both local men were very proud to
cents.
There have been many changes in'
their lives but none so many as- after
their children Robert and Margie
were born. Ruth ended by quoting
Aristotle, "without friends no one
would want to live, even if one had
all other goods. We are blessed to
have such wonderful and faithful
friends."
The crowd joined in singing For
They Are Jolly Good Fellows.
A bountiful lunch was prepared
and served by Joyce, Doreen, Doris
and Lori.
On Monday, Aug. 14 a few people
from the village and area went by
motorcoach from Wingham to
Sarnia.
They boarded the Duc D'Orleans,
for an exciting luncheon cruise.
They set sail on the brilliant blue
waters of the St. Clair River; an

of the tier II Division was another
