A winner
Mitchell Godkin of Walton won second at the Walton
TransCan amateur motocross races this past weekend in
the 50 cc class. This earns him bragging rights of being the
best in Canada on a 50 cc motocross bike, as first place
was won by a young American competitor from Michigan.
Mitchell was one of the proud local representatives taking
part in the national contest. In the same class, MaKenzie
Machan of Molesworth won third. (Photo submitted)

Perrie 2nd
at Games
On Aug. 14 Joan Perrie and 40
other first-place winners of District
29 Senior Games headed to the
provincial finals in Hamilton.
This two-day event, Actifest, is
held in a different part of the
province every two years. This
year, the 1,300 participants stayed
in McMaster University residences
and about half of the events took
place on campus.
Joan was participating in the
200m prediction swim. The first
day, she predicted that it would take
six minutes, 4 seconds to swim the
distance and she was 3.5 seconds
too fast.
Then on the second day she
predicted that she would swim it in
six minutes three seconds and she
was one second too slow.
These differences combined to
put her in second place, less than
one second behind the gold-place
winner, for the silver medal.
It was a busy time and the level of
enthusiasm among the seniors was
exciting. Events varied from
physically active sports such as
golf, tennis, darts, five-pin bowling,
to mentally challenging games of
bridge and euchre.
By the second day, participants
were comfortable with their
surroundings, former competitors
were becoming reacquainted and
everyone had a story to tell. The
300 volunteers from the Hamilton,
Burlington area were most friendly
and obliging, making sure that
everyone had a safe and enjoyable
time.
Joan has enjoyed the senior
games for four years now and she
encourages anyone who is
interested to watch for posters and
promotions of the District 29 games
(Huron, Perth, Middlesex Counties)
next April.
Locals
play ball
for Outlaws
Enjoying an opportunity of a
lifetime last week were Scott
McDonald and Scott Leonhardt of
the Walton Brewers.
They were picked up at the
beginning of the ball season by the
Kitchener Phoenix Outlaw ball
team. They played in regular
season games and the qualifying
tournaments for the ISC II world
fastball tournament.

The week in Walton began with
many Walton • friends attending the
funeral of Ken Rogerson.
Ken was the brother-in-law of
Leona McDonald, married to
Leona's sister Marg (Stevens);
Nephew Neil McDonald flew home
from Vancouver and was the speaker
at the services held in Clinton.
A sad and tragic accident in the
west claimed the lives of a Brussels-
Walton connection. Our
condolences are sent to the Duncan
and Searle families on the loss of
Jim Duncan and his son Cory
Duncan.
Jim and Cory were the son and
grandson of Kay Duncan and son-
in-law and grandson of Allan and
Alice Searle. They are survived by a
wife and mother, Helen Searle
Duncan.
They are residents of Brandon,
Manitoba and Helen's sisters Gail
Searle and Mary Pennington flew to
Manitoba to be with her sister.
A straw field of Ken Dalton's
caught on fire last week and both
Blyth and Seaforth• firefighters
responded. Farmers are reminded to
be careful and be prepared for
working in the dry stubble fields.
Home for a weekend were -Eric
and Sherry Delay from North
Carolina to visit with Barry and
Karen Hoegy. All the family
gathered on Friday night for supper
and a visit before their return on
Sunday.
Also home for a weekend visit
with Howard and Audrey Hackwell
was Pam Hackwell from Toronto.
Get-well wishes go out to my
friend Ross Cunningham who is a
patient in Wingham hospital.
Graeme Craig was the lucky
winner in a draw last week. He won
a blue three-foot high motorized
bike and now has it on display at the
Walton Inn.
Matt Shortreed and Mike
Beuermann made a trip to New
Liskeard on the weekend. Leaving
Thursday night they headed north to
visit Norm and Gwen Koch,
relatives of Mike. They toured the
area and saw some great scenery and
a new area to them.
It was a weekend of weddings of
Walton-area people. Being married
at the Lutheran Church at Seebach's
Hill were Becky Laverty and Aaron
Chadwick. Becky is the
granddaughter of Kathleen
Williamson of Walton.
Attending the 6:30 p.m. nuptials
from Walton were Kathleen, Tom
and Joyce Williamson and girls and
Ken and Val Pethick.
The reception was held at the
Army Navy Club in Stratford. It was
beautifully decorated in the bride's
theme colours of light wine.
A delicious late lunch was
enjoyed by all.
The bride's mother is Shirley
(Williamson) Skinner. Congrats to
the newlyweds.
FROM WALTON
At the races
It was the Walton Transcan and
the final race of the Grand National
series at the Lee farm in Walton last
week.
The racers and families started
arriving last Monday and when the
gates opened at 6 a.m. on Tuesday
morning the Walton Area sports club
and its volunteers were pushed into
action. The eighth-gate workers
worked steadily and efficiently and
managed to have nearly 400
campers cleared off the road and
into campsites by 8:45 a.m.
Racing began Wednesday
afternoon through to Saturday for
the amateur divisions. The
professional side of the event saw
practice and qualifiers on Saturday
with the final Pro races on Sunday.
The races went very well with
only a half dozen or less ambulance
calls, not bad for five days of races.
Great job Chris, Judy and Matt
Lee for pulling off such a big event
that takes nearly the whole year to
organize and involves so many
community groups.
The McDonald/Bremner families
gathered in Sarnia for the wedding
of Ryan Bremner to Katie Davidson.
Ryan is the son of Barry Bremner
and Pat (McDonald) Parr. The
wedding was held at the beautiful
Cantara Park Pavilion with the
dinner and reception held at the
Sarnia Golf and Country Club.
Nearly 140 guests enjoyed the
beautifully decorated hall done in
bronze tones, a delicious meal and
entertainment.
Many of the family members also
attended a brunch the next day at the
home_ of the bride's parents Bill and
Louise Davidson.
Ryan is the grandson of Fran and
the late Bill Bremner and Marilyn
and the late Don McDonald of
Brussels.
The McCallum-Bromley wedding
was held at the fafm of Paul and
Dianne McCallum. Colleen and
Scott were married under a
beautifully-decorated tent in the
backyard.
Scott is the son of Bev Bromley
and Kathy Bromley.
Following the ceremony, hors
d'euvres were enjoyed by the many
family and friends before heading to
the Blyth Community Centre for the
rest of the celebration. A meal for
180 guests was served by the Walton
United Church ladies. Musical
entertainment finished a great
evening in the hall which was
beautifully decorated theme of pink.
Family and friends gathered at the
back of McCallums for a brunch on
Sunday.
The bride and groom opened the
wedding gifts. Congrats to Scott and
Colleen.
