PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 24, 2006.
There was lots of traffic this week
in Brussels as the Walton races took
place. Cars, trucks, bikes and trailers
with their families were coming and
going over the weekend as the
competition continued.
Local groups helped keep this
major event running as they
provided first aid, food, garbage
collection and security for the
competitors, the sales folk and their
groupies. Another big job finished
for another year.

At the Branch
Quiet
month
for
Legion
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Legion Branch is
very quiet these days. It's a time to
get ready for the busy fall
Comrade Allyson Cardiff attended
the poppy and membership seminar
last week. Fall council is next week.
The elimination draw tickets are
out there. The early bird draw is
Sept. 9.
The Branch is still collecting pop
can tabs to be sent to the collection
centre for the purchase of
wheelchairs for those in need.
Our condolences to the family of
Comrade Ross Knight, who passed
away last week.
The Branch helped with bingo
night at the Transcan and the
children were thrilled with the prizes
from the sponsoring group. Thanks
to Comrades John and Julie Harrison
and Sandra and Catrina Josling.
Thieves

Sometime during the night of Aug.
19 thieves broke into a secure
vehicle on Ainley Street, Brussels.
A 2006 Chevy pickup was parked.
The victim discovered in the
morning that his laptop computer
and cell phone had been stolen. The
thieves had completely trashed the
inside of the vehicle.

The Citizen
ready to celebrate. Birthday time
seemed like a good opportunity to
let the world and especially the
Culture Club know that he was back
ready for a little stimulating
discussion on the world at large.
We're glad you're on the mend.
If anyone is looking to study bats
we now have several experts on the
life habits on this beneficial wee
species. Their elusive ways
prompted a bat party at the United
Church manse one night this past
week. Only those with a, direct
interest in the well being of the wee
fellows were invited to attend and as
luck would have it several bats came
as well. Bob, Sandra and Frank
would be pleased to answer your
specific questions.
Some things stay the same. As a
little girl I can remember going on
the big trip to Goderich with my
Grandpa Jenkins. As part of the day
we would visit his sister and in
varied order we would have fish and
chips at the beach, play in the water
and listen to the bands at Harbour
Park. So as I grew, and since
Grandpa died, at least once every
summer I need to do the Goderich
thing.
The Kincardine Community
Concert Band were in fine form this
week as they had feet tapping and
children marching and people
smiling as the 20-plus members
blew lots of pretty fine notes. The
Sunday night concerts are a way of
summer in Goderich and if you
place your chair just right you can
see the water through the trees as the
sun sets it changes the colours of
Lake Huron.
Oh yes, life is good, a peaceful
Sunday evening with postcard
scenery, live music and a tummy full
of fish and chips. Sometimes when
we try to rethink a childhood
memory it's not quite right, but this
week the waves were just as good,
the music was better and the fish and
chips were great — but now you go
on the salt mine side of the harbour
to get the right ones.
So sumrher is fast leaving us and
there is only one more chance to
hear the bands that the Goderich
Band sponsors each Sunday night in
the Lion's Harbour Park. The last
one is the Stratford band, another
really good one.
Take care of yourself.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
