From the Minister's Study
`Summer, a time for enjoying God's creation'
By Rev. Ethel Miner Clare
Knox United Church, Belgrave
Summer, a time for enjoying
God's creation!
Golden grain rustling in a warm
breeze, a star-studded night sky, corn
on the cob, beets, carrots,
cucumbers, and beans, fresh from
the garden the delight of
watermelon, cherries and peaches.
No need to travel to find these
wonders.
Vacation time is relaxing time.
Wind whispering through the pines,
the lonesome cry of a loon, a black
bear who pops his head out of the
ditch, as we pass by, an eagle soaring
overhead, a martin, a fawn, gulls, the
A new feature artist will exhibit at
the Goderich Co-op Gallery during
August. Linda Sittler-Howe works
in many media — acrylic, water
colour, pastel, mono prints and
mixed media.
Various themes will be explored,
especially growth and the
importance of the natural world,
and ambiguity and narrative . In the
latter case Sittler-Howe likes the
viewer to be able to see several
objects in her work, to see beneath
the surface so that the viewer comes
up with his or her own story.
The images of ambiguity series
are work which is more
impressionistic and abstract while
the work in the growth and nature
series is usually realistic.
Sittler-Howe has exhibited in a
variety of juried exhibitions and has
had a number of one-person show in
the Kitchener Public Library, Cartier
Partners, Clinton and Gallery 2000.
Her awards include Juror's Choice
awards, Best of Show and several
honorable mentions, the most recent
being in june at the Waterloo
Community Art Centre. Her work
full moon rising over tree-tops. All
are gift from our Creator.
Squeals of delight from
grandchildren splashing in the lake,
conversations with old friends,
catching up with events in their lives,
construction crews repairing roads,
engaged in bridge maintenance,
sales people, service people - all
God's people.
All bear the hand-print of the One
who created us.
This summer, let us give thanks for
the gift of creation and for all who
share this gift with us - for we are all
richly blessed by God, the One who
creates, and cares for each one of us.
Amen and amen.
appears in several collection in
North America.
She is represented at the Eldon
Gallery in Waterloo and currently
also has an exhibition at the
University Club, University of
Waterloo.
Her work can be viewed at the
Goderich Co-op Gallery during the
month of August from Monday to
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A
working artist is always on duty.
