A_ local fall fair ambassador will
be heading to Toronto to represent
her community in the annual
Canadian National Exibition (CNE)
competition.
Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador
1,425 lbs. selling for an average of
$95.11 with one blaCk steer weigh-
ing 1,365 lbs. selling for $98.50.
Lawrence Martin of Harriston, con-
signed twenty-three steers averaging
1,504 lbs. selling for an average of
$93.36 with one gold steer weighing
1,440 lbs. selling to FAB Meat
Products for $98.25. Walter Riddell
of Granton, consigned eighteen
steers averaging 1,446 lbs. Selling
for an average of $96.03 with three
limousin steers averaging 1,462 lbs.

signed twenty-one heifers averaging
1,224 lbs. selling for an average of
$88.77 with one gold heifer weigh-
ing 1,160 lbs. selling to Norwich
Yvonne DeWit will be participating
in the Ambassador of the Fair com-
petition on Sunday, Aug. 20 at the
Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto.
The contest will mark its 35th
anniversary year.
Ambassadors travel from- across
Ontario to compete for the coveted
title.
They work to promote, educate
and inform the public about
Canadian agriculture while bridging
the gap between rural and urban
communities.
Local ambassadors exemplify pas-
sion and knowledge of agriculture
and demonstrate their dedication and
involvement in the community.
The crowned winner will represent
all agricultural -ambassadors for the
upcoming year.
DeWit will join the more than 80
ambassadors from across
Midwestern Ontario in a three-day
judging competition. Through their
poise, self-confidence; agricultural
knowledge and prepared speeches, a
candidate will be chosen to represent
the CNE for the 2006/07 year.
DeWit says"It's been an amazing
year. I have learned a lot and met a
lot of people in the community".
DeWit has helped out with such
events as the Terry Fox Run in
Packers for $100.75. Jeff Bryan of
Granton, consigned five heifers aver-
aging 1,357 lbs. selling for an aver-
age of $97.06 with one limousin
heifer weighing 1,460 lbs. selling_to
St. Helens Meat Packers for $99.50.

consigned seventeen heifers averag-

Brussels, and the Harvest Dance
Fundraiser. She said they were both
enjoyable new experiences.
The next stop as Ambassador of
the Fair brought DeWit to the
District 8 Agricultural -Society's
annual meeting.
DeWit had the opportunity to
attend the Ontario Association of
Agriculture Society's annual meet-
ing being held at the Royal York
Hotel in Toronto.
"It was an amazing experience,"
said. DeWit.
There she got to take part in semi-
nars and lectures and also watch
Aaron Pritchett perform. "It was an
amazing opportunity and I gaiped
some knowledge and met a variety
of interesting people," she said
DeWit helped to raise money to
improve the Brussels dam and con-
servation area at the Optimists annu-
al fundraising dinner.
A while later DeWit attended and
spoke at the annual meeting of the
Majestic Women's Institue of
Brussels, who happen to be her
sponsors for the competition.
DeWit says of the experience "It
helps me to appreciate my roots, and
I'm looking forward to competing at
the CNE".

averaging 1,373 lbs. selling for an
average , of $47.57 with one blonde

There were not enough bulls on
offer to establish a market.
There were 136 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $100 to $105 with

holstein, $80 to $85; plain holstein,
$65 to $75; good heavy, $70 to $85.

On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold $2 higher: The choice
steers and heifers sold $92 to $97
with sales to $104.25. Second cut
sold $88 to $93 with the cows selling
steady. On Thursday the veal sold $5
higher, while the lambs sold $10 to
$20 higher. The sheep sold steady.
On Friday calves sold $2 to $5 high-
er while the yearlings sold on a
steady market.
There were 258 steers on offer.

WHAT IS ASTHMA?
Asthma is a chronic breathing disorder affecting both children and adults.
It is characterized by:
• Asthma symptoms can include cough, severe shortness of breath,
chest tightness and wheeze and usually occur after exposure toe aller-
gens, viral infections and exercise, or exposure to irritants such as
fumes and cigarette smoke.
• Exposure can cause inflammation of the airway wall and abnormal nar-
rowing of the airways, which may lead to asthma symptoms
• An asthma attack can be frightening with feelings of suffocation,
breathlessness and loss of control and can be potentially life threaten-
ing
• Asthma can develop at any age, but is common in childhood.
