PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2006.
Once again summer is going like
the wind. Lots of visitors out and
about, games and tournaments to
watch and music and theatre to
enjoy. Hurrah for summer.
We have a new baby on Tory Hill.
Samual Overholt has made his
appearance much to the relief of all
involved. Oddly enough that came to
involve Ralph. One fine day on his
bicycle coming home from the
rounds downtown he took a look
over at Sarah and Andy's house.
Surprise — the pavement, the grass
and the hike tire were not in
harmony and Ralph took flight.
• Now several checks later on the
service of Wingham and London
Health Services he is gracefully
sporting a cast and several pieces of
hardware — not the Oldfield variety.
So Sam and Sarah may be in better
shape sooner than fractured Ralph.
The Red Hat ladies as well as lots
of other folk were part of the
Wingham and area Relay for Life on
Friday night at the high school. This
event started early Friday evening
with the participants spending the
night in the great outdoors. High
levels of enthusiasm kept most of the
folks awake, alert and ready to take a
turn on the track. The pledges for the
cause were in excess of $70,000 so
everyone was pleased with this first
effort as well as a new appreciation
of people who work the night shift.
The brothers were in the area last
week. Brother Jim with Beth and
Wade made a quick overnight visit
prior to picking up daughter Nic in
Toronto, returning from a Lions'
exchange. She had a great time in
Sweden learning to water ski
barefoot as well a lot of hiking and
the usual neat stuff that the kids
experience on the International
Exchange program.
The Lions Club from Mountain
were pleased as they had never had a
participant. We like to think that it
was Curt's excellent visit to
Germany many years ago that was
the positive influence for our
Hallville niece.

There has been a well-deserved
rest for the Comrades of Branch 218.
After a busy July, the month of
August seems dull, but September
will be here and busy again.
The elimination draw tickets are
out and about, so see a member. The
early bird draw is Sept. 9.
The Saturday euchre had 10 tables
at play. Scores were very close.
First prize went to Lloyd and
Lillian Appleby with 74 points,
second prize to Tom and Eileen
Sloan with 73 points and third to
Ruth Pickard and Lorna Ellis with
72 points. The low prize for 40
points went to Vera Lindner and Vera
Ahrens.
Lone hand prizes went to Helen
Warwick and Don Parker.
Euchre is every two weeks.
The Sunday night dance was to the
music of the Georgian Bay
Islanders. Dancers are every two
weeks.
The plumbers were busy at the
Branch again and hopefully the
problems are all solved. Comrade
George Adams and Glenn Bridge
were great help.
Now the construction crew can get
to work repairing the water-soaked
ceiling.
There are a few upcoming Zone
meetings and seminars for various
aspects of the Branch. Committee

here on Saturday night after making
sure that Ross and Bunny Peacock of
suburban Wroxeter got their
daughter Debra married properly.
They report that Mary was pleased
with the family attendance and full
approval for the peacock feathers as
bouquets.
So after the granddaughter takes a
round out of us this week I'm
looking forward for a little bit of
solitude and a little less excitement.
Enjoy the August days.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
chairmen are reminded to check
their calendars.
Congratulations to Comrade Andy
Overholt and wife Sarah on the birth
of a son, Samuel.
Thoughts go out to Gord Nichol
who is a patient in Wingham
Hospital.
