Obituaries
ERMA BRIGHTON
Erma Adelaine (Fink) Brighton of
Brussels, passed away at Huronlea
Home for the Aged on Thursday,
July 6, 2006.
Born in Preston on May 5, 1920,
Erma was in her 87th year.
Erma and her husband Ross
owned and operated many
restaurants in the area including The
Texan in Brussels which later
became JR's.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Ross Brighton. Erma was the
dear mother of Lloyd Brighton of
Wingham, Ron Brighton and his
wife Marg of Ariss, and Keith
Brighton and his wife Ruth of
Kitchener. She was the dear sister of
Ruby White of Kitchener, Doris
Sittler of St. Jacobs, and Shirley
Pushelburg and her husband Gord of
Kitchener. Erma was also loved by
her grandchildren Rick, Terry, Mark,
Trina, Patrick, and Brandy and by
her great-grandchildren Joshua,
Dustin, Danielle and Aaron. Her son
Roy, granddaughter Cathy, brothers
Austin and Walter and daughter-in-
law Joan, predeceased her.
Friends were received by the
family two hours prior to the funeral
service conducted at the Schimanski
Family Funeral Home on Saturday,
July 8 at 2 p.m. with Sandra Cable
officiating. Hymns for the service
were Amazing Grace and Guide Me,
0 Thou Great Jehovah. •
The pallbearers were Erma's
grandchildren.
Burial took place in Brussels
Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made to
the Canadian Diabetes Association
or Brussels Legion No. 218 R.C.L.

HELEN CARDIFF
Margaret Helen (Alcock) Cardiff
of Brussels, passed away suddenly at
Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital, Windsor
'on Tuesday, June 27, 2006.
Born in Morris Twp. on Aug. 18,
1925, Helen was in her 81st year.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Clifford Cardiff. Helen was the
dear mother of Fred Cardiff and his
wife Marie of Amherstburg and Fran
Rose of Brussels. She was the dear
sister of Isabel Alcock of Grey Twp.,
Jean Storey of Sebringville, June
Schroeder of Centralia and Joan
Baxter and her husband George of
Florida. She was the. dear mother-in-
law to Gary Orth. Helen was also
loved by her grandchildren Sandra
Ash and L) le, Darwin Rose, Tammy
Rose and Herb Govier and by her
great-grandchildren Brandon,
Kailey, Jaidon, Madison, Hunter and
Hailey.
She was predeceased by her
daughter Jean Orth, son-in-law Jim
Rose, brothers Beacham and Eric
and sisters Ruth and Mary.
Friends were received by the
family from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.
Friday from the Schimanski Family
Funeral Home. The funeral service
was conducted from St. John's
Anglican Church on Saturday, July 1
at 2 p.m. with Rev. Len Myers
officiating. A poem in tribute of her
grandmother was read by Sandra
Ash. Hymns were In The Garden, 0
for a Closer Walk With Thee and
Amazing Grace.
Pallbearers were Darwin Rose,
Lyle Ash, Brandon Armstrong, Herb
Govier, Gary Orth and Fred Cardiff.
Burial was in Brussels Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy,
memorial donations were made to
St John's Anglican Church or
Brussels Legion No. 218 RCL.

JOHN JAMES MANNING
John James Manning of Blyth
passed away peacefully at Huronlea
Home, Brussels on Sunday, June 25,
2006. He was in his 79th year.
John was born on June 23, 1928 in
Hullett Twp., the son of the late
Alexander and Mary Alvena
(Patterson) Manning. John was a
well known businessman in Blyth
operating the family lumber business
for many years.
He was the beloved husband of the
late Muriel (Rowden) Manning
(2004). John was the loving father of
Cameron and Colleen Manning of
London,. Murray Manning of
Cambridge, Brian and Carol
Manning of Calgary, Alberta and
Jeanette and Rob Elliott of London.
He was the cherished grandfather of
Claire, Martha, Emily, Lindsay,
Kayla, Alexander, Sean and Scott
and dear brother-in-law of Thelma
Manning of Blyth and Lois Wise of
Clinton. John was also loved by
several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents
Alexander and Mary Manning, one
brother William "Bill" Manning and
one brother-in-law Edward Wise.
Friends were received at the
Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., Blyth
Visitation Centre, 407 Queen St.,
Blyth on Tuesday, June 27 where the
funeral service was held on
Wednesday, June 28 at 2 p.m. Rev.
Tom Wilson of Trinity Anglican
Church, Blyth officiated.
Interment was in Blyth Union
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Cameron,
Murray and Brian Manning, Rob
Elliott and Sean and Scott Elliott.
Flowerbearers were Claire, Martha,
Emily and Lindsay Manning.
Donations to the Arthritis Society
or to the Canadian Cancer Society
would be appreciated as expressions
of sympathy.
DOROTHY MAY POWELL
Dorothy Powell (nee Driscoll) of
Seaforth and formerly of Blyth and
Listowel passed away peacefully at
Seaforth Manor on Monday, July 10,
2006. She was in her 92nd year.
Mrs. Powell was the beloved wife
of the late George C. Powell, who
predeceased her in 1993. She was
the dear mother of Arlyn and her
husband Glenn Montgomery of
Belgrave and Jack Powell and his
wife Joan of Listowel. She was the
grandma of Karen and her husband
Daniel Gagne of Wichita Falls,
Texas, Jason Powell and his friend
Denise of Listowel, Jonathan Powell
of London and Jenine Powell and
her fiance Stephen of Listowel. She
was the sister-in-law of Isabelle
Powell of Stratford and .Beth and
Jack O'Bright of Thamesford. Mrs.
Powell is also survived by many
nieces and nephews.
Her parents, John and Mary
Driscoll, two brothers Ross and
Boyd Driscoll and her brother-in-
law R.W. Pat Powell predeceased
her.
Dorothy was born at Leadbury in
McKillop Twp. on March 28, 1915.
She graduated Teacher's College in
1934 and taught in one-room
schoolhouses in McKillop and
Hullett Twps. for many years.
George and Dorothy farmed for
many years in the Blyth area. They
retired to Listowel in 1990 and in
2002, Dorothy moved to Seaforth
Manor.
Friends will be received at the
Blyth Visitation Centre of the
Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., 407
Queen St. on Thursday from 2 - 4
and 7 - 9 p.m. where the funeral
service will be held on Friday, July
14 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in
Blyth Union Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, the
family would appreciate memorial
donations to the Trinity Anglican
Church in Blyth or the charity of
your choice.
