Grey GRADUATION 2006 Students don't just learn at Grey says valedictorian By Mackenzie Arthur Daugherty Everyone has the potential to be who they want to be, but they need the confidence to succeed. I'm sure that every student in this class has the confidence and willpower to start their life journey. And I think they got that confidence while attending this school. But, at Grey Central, we don't just learn, we make friends and have fun. I am greatly honoured to represent my class tonight, as they are such an amazing group of people. Nine years ago. I came to this school after attending a preschool, to start on the bottom of the food chain. We were small, and to most teachers, we were deadly. In the primary grades, we learned the basic rules of school, such as: how to add, subtract, and make mines, or farms in the sand pits. We were well on our way by Grade 3 as we faced the dreaded EQAO testing. I think in Grade 4, some of us let loose, and we had a few accidents. Grade 5 was a breeze, but by Grade 6, I had just enough of this place and was glad to get by our second dose of EQAO testing. Last year, we were a little upset to think we still had one year left, but this past one flew by. It seems like yesterday that Mr. Payne was telling us about his summer at his cottage. This year has been fun, and I think I've become better friends with the people in this class. We learned more about the Beatles, Mr. Payne's cottage, and zebra mussels. Thank you to the teachers, Mr. Payne, Mrs. Colquhoun, and Mrs. Weber, who had to put up with us in our final year. Thank you also to the teachers who got us to this point tonight. Especially to our parents, who were willing to stay up late on a Sunday night to help us finish our project. My parents taught me to do my best and never give up, I have to admit, I am a little upset to have to go to the bottom of the food chain again and once again be the smallest. My favourite part of my yearS at Grey would have to be this year's Grade 8 trip to go and see the theatrical performance of The Lord of the Rings. We boarded our coach bus at nine, to head off to Toronto. On the Way there, we talked and tried out the onboard washroom. We stopped for lunch, and then we were off to the theatre. After three and a half hours of an amazing play, we headed to do some shopping at the Eaton Centre. We got to the Hard Rock Café and waited for our food, while guzzling many pitchers of pop. Supper was terrific, and we thoroughly enjoyed the brownie with ice cream. A few of the girls wanted to get a picture with the waiter, and someone asked if a waitress wq,uld mind sitting with the guys, and we thoroughly enjoyed that. We gat back to the school an hour Continued from page 16 Now, as we move on in our lives to the next step, I would like to leave you with this: be yourself and focus on the positives rather than the negatives. You could say that your life is just a giant food collage. You need all the special additions, pickles, pudding, salami, sandwiches, etc. When all of those come together and respond in unison, that's you, that's who you are! As you add more to it, you as a person grow and mature. But, in contradiction, youth is just a state until maturity overrules. So if nothing is going your way, wait it out. It'll blow over. Nothing should keep you grounded. You should wake up each and every day looking forward to it. Not fearing it, but rather fearing it to the end. We only have a limited amount of Continued from page 15 May your new path take you where you want to go and also bring you.pleasant surprises. late, but we definitely had a fun bus ride home. Thank you to the parents and teachers who made this one of the best days of my life. As we get older and start listening to old music, we have more and more important choices to make, and as a member of this class, I can only hope that my friends will make the right choices, or find pelp. As we head down separate streams in life, chocising new streams, or even changing direction, I hope that no one drowns, and that we have a steady ride down. Thank you. time on this earth, so make it count. Try new things, don't be afraid and no matter what, you be yourself, you are original, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. In closing, I bid every graduate, farewell and good luck in the future years. Thank you.we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change that fact that people will act a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the string we have. And that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 per cent what happens to me and 90 per cent how I react to it. And so it is with you." So now, it is my honour to present to you Blyth Public School's graduating Class of 2006. Look out world here we come! Congratulations, to the graduates of 2005/2006.
