On July 4, Sparling's field was the
scene of the U-11 soccer game
between Blyth Thunder and
Goderich I.
First-time keeper Danielle
Randell put on the goalie shirt and
did a- fine job covering the net for
Blyth.
Goderich got on the scoreboard
off the first kick-off, then scored one
more to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Goderich kept the pressure-on but
was unable to score again.
Blyth players came out strong
after half time. It was a real team
effort to get the first goal. Leendert
VanDorp kicked the ball up the field,
Blyth U- I is met Goderich on the
evening of Tuesday, July 4 for an
action-packed game.
Goderich started with the ball but
soon lost it to Blyth's Derek deBoer
who zipped it to Wyatt Carey. Carey
then took the shot and got the first
goal of the game.
This goal was followed shortly
after with Carey taking possession
of the ball, then from a quick pass
deBoer booted the ball making the
score 2-0 for Blyth.
The third goal was a result of an
indirect penalty against Goderich.
Madison Sjaarda took the shot and
passed it to Alex Peters who scored.
Goderich picked up the pace and
gave Blyth's defence and goalie
Wyatt Bearss a run for the
money. Blyth's Tyler Guetter
snuck the ball away from
Goderich for a breakaway
but Goderich made the save.
halfback Zach Drost received the
pass and kicked the ball to the
outside of the field to forward
Kathryn Peach. Peach crossed the
ball over and Jean Paul VanDorp
scored the goal.
A little later L. VanDorp booted
the ball up the field to Christina
Eckert. Eckert kicked the ball to
forward J.P. VanDorp to get the ball
into Goderich's net for the tying
goal.
Attempts to break the tie were
made from both sides, but the game
ended in a tie. with a score of 2-2.
It was a great game for both
teams.
Another penalty was called
against Goderich. Jeff Hallahan took
the indirect shot to Peters who gave
it his best but Goderich saved it
again.
Before the end of the first half,
Sjaarda nabbed the ball from
Goderich and passed it to Courtney
Monk to make the score 4-0.
For the second half, Peters was in
net. Carey passed the ball to Sjaarda
who had a break for the net.
It was another great save for
Goderich.
Sjaarda then sent the ball to Carey
who put it in for another goal.
The final and sixth goal of the
game went to Hallahan who received
a pass from Bearss.
Goalkeepers Bearss and Peters
earned a shutout for Blyth
Lightning.
The Lightning's coach is Bert
Sjaarda.

Blyth Lightning met Clinton Ajax
in Blyth on July 6 for a U-13 soccer

skills. The captains for Blyth were
forward Ali Snell and halfback Alex
Raynard. Lucas Frawley donned the
goalie gloves and shirt for the first
half of the game.
Clinton came out strong and
scored two goals right away.

Brent Drost for the first goal for the

assist after he made a pass to Drost

Doug Rathwell had the longest
putt to pick up one of his two skins
